Meghan Trainor Is Married

Meghan Trainor can officially retire her hit Dear Future Husband—because she’s officially married.

On Saturday, which also happened to be her 25th birthday, Trainor exchanged vows with her fiancé, actor Daryl Sabara. According to People, the two married in an intimate backyard ceremony in front of 100 friends and family members.

“It’s the beginning of an awesome, whole new life,” Trainor told People. “I got way more than I ever wished for.” Sabara, who starred in the 2001 hit Spy Kids, simply added, “I’m the luckiest guy in the world.”

Their wedding date was rather fitting considering the pair also got engaged on Trainor’s 24th birthday one year ago. At the time, Trainor announced the engagement with an adorable Instagram post.

“I SAID YESSSS!!!! For my 24th birthday, the love of my life @darylsabara made all of my dreams come true,” Trainor captioned the Instagram video clip. “He proposed to me under a tunnel of beautiful Christmas lights and surprised me with my family and friends. I’m still in shock. I’ve never been this happy! Thank you Daryl, my family and friends for making me feel like a real princess ????? and thank you @ryan.trainor for this amazing video that I’m gonna watch over and over again ❤️“

According to People, Trainor wore a gown designed by Berta for the ceremony, along with Badgley Mischka heels and Norman Silverman jewels. Both Trainor and Sabara reportedly exchanged handwritten vows. For the reception, People reports, she changed into a lace suit by Rita Vinieris and Aldo sneakers (you know, to ensure maximum dancing comfort).

As for what the two are most excited about for married life, Trainor told People, “Just rockin’ them rings,” while Sabara responded with, “I’m no longer the ‘future hubby’—I get to just be the hubby, which I’m excited about!”

Adorable. Congrats to the happy couple!

Meghan Trainor on #MeToo, Her Fiancé, and Her 'Bomb' New Music Video

Meghan Trainor is in love. In fact, she’s so in love with her fiancé, Daryl Sabara—yes, of Spy Kids fame—that the relationship has informed much of her new music era, which so far includes three bouncy, buoyant bops (“No Excuses,” “Can’t Dance,” and “Let You Be Right”). “I’m very in love, so you’ll hear these beautiful love songs, happy songs, and honest songs. It’s fun—and a lot of dancing,” Trainor tells us when asked about her upcoming third album. (A release date hasn’t been announced yet.)

Because Sabara is a major inspiration behind Trainor’s new music, she has no problem talking—gushing, even—about him. “I’m so confident about [our relationship],” she says. “I’m so in love, and I want to tell the world. I feel like it’s almost unfair how lucky I am, you know? Every moment of every day we always look at each other like, ‘How did I get you?’ I always say it’s better than the movies. They don’t talk about this kind of love in the movies. I love talking to people about it. I love bragging about it.”

One Trainor song in which Sabara is up front and center is “Let You Be Right,” a pulsating dance track with a slick, retro vibe. The title sums up the song’s message: Trainor typically comes out on top in an argument, but she’s willing to give Sabara a win—for just one night, of course. “I wanted to talk about my relationship with Daryl [in the song] and a cute thing we do,” Trainor says. “What I taught him early on was, you know, I’m always right. I really am. Daryl learned that early on, so any little fight we have he knows it ends with me being right. I wanted to put that in a song.”

The video for “Let You Be Right” just dropped today, and it’s a fun kaleidoscope of neon lights, choreography, and roller rink shenanigans. “I’m obsessed with lights—a lot of lights,” Trainor says of the video’s inspiration. “So I told [the video directors and producers], ‘I want lasers, and I want it to look cool.’ I wanted cool effects. I wanted it to look like we spent a lot of money, you know? I wanted to dance and show my body, and I did it. I looked bomb.”

Yes, she does. Check out the video for yourself, below:

Lyrically, “Let You Be Right” is more relaxed than Trainor’s recent single “No Excuses,” which feels particularly resonant in light of #MeToo. (The song is about Trainor checking a man for his behavior. In a previous interview, she says it came after an incident of mansplaining.) “I didn’t write ‘No Excuses’ because I was inspired by anything except a personal experience I went through,” she says. “I was really proud and really pushing this song to be first [single] because of everything going on in the world. I was like, ‘This is what everyone needs right now.’ Everyone will relate to this.”

“I had a personal experience with men in the industry and had to write about it,” she continues. “It was one of those—like, I have write this song or I’m going to freak out. As soon as I wrote it, I played the demo for the label and they were like, ‘Whoa, that’s powerful.'”

Trainor says #MeToo has caused her to reevaluate some of her previous experiences. “As a girl, I feel like you’re raised to just put your head down and be like ‘OK, yup. That happened. That’s normal.’ But when I look back, I’m like, ‘No, that was pretty messed up.’ I didn’t even think like that until everyone started speaking out and telling their truth,” she says. “It makes me feel so much better knowing you’re not alone. Everyone else feels this way too, and it’s not right.”

Though we still have a long way to go, Trainor does think the music industry is making progress. Above all, she just wants people in Hollywood to be kinder to each other. “I hope [the industry] changes, and I hope the younger generation comes up and comes in with kinder hearts and spreads the love more.”

Meghan Trainor Is Engaged

Meghan Trainor is engaged to her boyfriend of just over a year, Daryl Sabara. The singer announced the news about her and the former Spy Kids actor last night via Instagram with an adorable video of the exact moment Sabara got down on one knee.

“I SAID YESSSS!!!! For my 24th birthday, the love of my life @darylsabara made all of my dreams come true,” Trainor captioned the clip. “ He proposed to me under a tunnel of beautiful Christmas lights and surprised me with my family and friends. I’m still in shock. I’ve never been this happy! Thank you Daryl, my family and friends for making me feel like a real princess ????? and thank you @ryan.trainor for this amazing video that I’m gonna watch over and over again ❤️ “

Watch the adorable clip for yourself below:

Trainor and Sabara started dating in October 2016 after they were introduced by a mutual friend, actress Chloë Grace Moretz.

“Chloë Grace Moretz is a friend of mine, and day one of meeting her, I was like, ‘You know anybody that I could date? Or love? Whatever,’” Trainor said on Chelsea Handler’s show, Chelsea. “And she’s like, ‘I know the nicest guy in the world, Daryl, and you should meet him.’ I was like, ‘Daryl? OK.’”

She confirmed their relationship through an Instagram post back in October 2016. And ever since then, the Dear Future Husband singer has been keeping followers posted about the two of them, even sharing in April that Sabara learned sign language for her after her vocal surgery.

“I did it guys! I did it! I found one,” Trainor said at the time about finding her then-boyfriend. “He’s better than whatever I wished for.”

This summer, she also opened up about how he helps boost her confidence: “No one expressed how they liked my body out loud in the bedroom until I met Daryl,” she said in the Cosmo‘s May issue. “He is obsessed with it—every inch. And that has improved my confidence more than even ‘[All About That] Bass’ did. He’s a champion, so we’re in heaven.”

There are no further details regarding their wedding date or her ring—yet!—but we’ll keep you posted as we know more. In the meantime, congrats to the happy couple.

Meghan Trainor Is Not OK With Being Used in an Anti-Marriage Equality Post

As a vote on marriage equality in Australia approaches, Facebook groups have popped up to advocate for each side. But when VoteNoAustralia, a group that’s against marriage equality, used an image of pop star Meghan Trainor in a meme they got some serious heat from the star—and the Twitterverse, Buzzfeed reports.

First, some background information on the vote: Starting on September 12, Australians who have registered to vote on this issue will receive survey forms in the mail asking, essentially, whether they are in favor of legalizing gay marriage in the country or not. Votes will be accepted until November 7.

The caption on the anti-marriage equality meme feature Meghan reads, “My vote is NO you need to let it go,” a play on the lyrics to Meghan’s song “No,” which actually goes, “My number is no/ You need to let it go,” and is about rejecting guys at the club, not denying people civil rights.

Repurposing one of Meghan’s lyrics to make a political point is so ridiculous, it’s almost funny. Almost. Advocating against marriage equality isn’t really a laughing matter, and for her part, Meghan is definitely not cool with her image being used in this manner. The singer took to Twitter to voice her support of equal marriage rights.

“I SUPPORT MARRIAGE EQUALITY! Someone in Australia is illegally using my picture for a campaign against marriage equality. So wrong. Not okay,” she wrote on Twitter in a series of three posts. “I’ve said it before, Everyone should be able to love who they want. I support equality, period. VOTE YES FOR MARRIAGE EQUALITY. LOVE IS LOVE” with a link to an Instagram post reminding Aussies to register for the vote.”

Couldn’t have said it better ourselves, Meghan. All adults should make sure they can vote, and all adults should be free to marry the person they love.
