The Bachelor 2020: Of Course Peter Weber's First Promo Includes a Windmill


Peter Weber‘s season of The Bachelor airs in January, which seems like a lifetime away. But ABC just dropped a little something to tide us over: This first promo for what’s to come. And, reader, it’s wild.

The CGI-tastic teaser starts with a shot of a plane flying in the sky as a cover of Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good” plays. (A fitting image, seeing as how Weber is a pilot and was dubbed “Pilot Pete” on Hannah Brown’s season of The Bachelorette.)

We then pan, hilariously, to a windmill, which is a not-so-subtle nod to the sex confession heard ’round the world on Brown’s season. (She told viewers that she and Weber slept together not once, not twice, but four times on their Fantasy Suite date—a date that took place inside a windmill.) Weber then emerges from the animated windmill, rose in hand, with a smolder in his eyes. His face, thank goodness, seems completely healed from the “freak accident” that happened earlier this year while filming in Costa Rica. (He reportedly tripped and fell on top of two cocktail glasses.)

Weber’s contestants for his season of The Bachelor were revealed earlier this year, and the lack of size diversity was glaring (though, thankfully, there was some racial diversity).

“It’s still hitting me right now, and I feel so grateful right now just to have this opportunity in front of me,” Weber told People shortly after his Bachelor-ship was announced. “I feel emotional right now. This is crazy. This is life-changing. I have truly, my entire life, looked forward to finding my girl, and that first person that I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with…. I have all the faith in the world that this can work for me, and I know it’s going to.”

Peter Weber’s season of The Bachelor will premiere in January 2020.

We Need to Talk About Lupita Nyong'o's *Us* Promo Looks


Lupita Nyong’o‘s performance in Jordan Peele’s Us is earning rave reviews and even Oscar buzz (meantime the film is breaking records left and right). But her acting chops are not the only part of her involvement with the film getting praise, though. The actress has been out promoting Us on the red carpet, on late night shows, at college campuses—and she’s been doing it in full-blown lewks that say: gore, but make it fashion. And people just can’t get enough.

Nyong’o worked with longtime stylist Micaela Erlanger to assemble the much talked-about Us press tour wardrobe, which has fans delighted, frightened, and glued to Instagram to see what’s next.

“We really wanted to have fun with this tour—the last one we did was Black Panther—and capture the duality of the characters in the film,” Erlanger tells Glamour. “We had lots of ideas and shared images. I looked at everything from creepy carnivals to old Alexander McQueen shows to the most recent Dior Couture circus collection. The overall feeling was a bit twisted, dark, unexpected—but still fashion forward, whether that was communicated through her looks, hair, makeup, accessories, etc.”

Some of these references have been more direct than others. For example, Erlanger reveals that Nyong’o has been wearing “little scissor earrings and rings throughout the tour,” as a nod to the movie. She first wore them to the Us premiere at South by Southwest, which was the first major red carpet from the press cycle.

“We searched high and low [for scissor earrings] with no luck,” Erlanger remembers, “until my assistant learned about this designer, Lauren Kalssen.” Nyong’o wore the diamond-encrusted pair with an Honayda suit.

More subtly, though, Nyong’o has also worn outfits that incorporate the idea of duality, which is core to Us, into design. “This Rosie Assoulin dress was a perfect example of that,” Erlanger says of the brand’s Hans Yolo style, with its split contrasting floral pattern. That paired with the actress’ eye makeup, the stylist adds, was “perfect.”

Nyong’o isn’t slowing down with her fashion. If anything, her Us looks only keep getting better and better. Ahead, read on for more tidbits from Erlanger about Nyong’o’s epic outfits (and try not to get too excited about the prospect of awards season…)

Arie Luyendyk Jr.'s First 'Bachelor' Promo Is Here


ABC threw everyone for a loop last week when it announced Arie Luyendyk Jr., from Emily Maynard’s 2012 season of The Bachelorette, is the next Bachelor. Yes, you read that correctly: 2012. Five years ago. Why ABC thought this was a good choice is beyond me—and all of Bachelor Nation. These Twitter reactions prove it.

But since we’re moving forward with Luyendyk Jr., let me refresh your memory on this guy: The 35-year-old is a real estate agent from Arizona whose father is a two-time Indianapolis 500 winner, something I’m told is a big deal to straight people. And to be fair to Luyendyk, he was actually great on Maynard’s Bachelorette season. No shade to him—it’s just so strange that ABC made such a from-the-vault choice, especially when there were so many options from Rachel Lindsay’s season (cough, Hot Peter, cough).

But, alas, here we are: Hot Peter-less and with an auto-racing Bachelor 50 percent of fans completely forgot about. If ABC has its way, though, Luyendyk Jr. will be your fave by the time The Bachelor airs in January 2018. The network, somehow, just unveiled the first promo for Luyendyk Jr.’s season, and it’s…well, it’s a lot of things. Watch it for yourself, here, and then let’s discuss.

ABC’s really trying to make this “sexy race car driver” thing work. “Hearts will race,” a throaty voice booms over shots of Luyendyk strutting his stuff in what looks like a car-themed spacesuit. Listen, I get that this is Luyendyk Jr.’s “thing,” but race car driving is a very un-sexy sport. You drive around in circles in a car with tinted windows. No one can even see you! Why didn’t they have him do, like, benchpresses in the middle of a race car track or something? That would be very on-brand for The Bachelor and with this new theme ABC’s aiming for.

The network also managed to find the only positive tweets about Luyendyk Jr.’s casting and used them as gushy fanfare, but my Peter-loving heart isn’t taking the bait. Again, Luyendyk Jr. is great—despite his affinity for cars and hair gel—but he’s not who fans wanted. That’s the truth.

Nevertheless, I remain optimistic about this season—and I’ll still watch—but I think I speak on behalf of all Bachelor Nation with this simple request: Please, ABC, no more car puns.
