Each time it rolls around, we can trust that the MTV Movie & TV Awards red carpet is going to bring us some incredible looks: The event is known for being a little more playful when it comes to what celebrities wear—as MTV itself notes, the dress code is pretty much “just be yourself”—and the summer date means that we’re going to see some bright colors and bold cuts. 2019’s MTV Movie & TV Awards, held on Saturday (June 15), were no exception: Celebrities showed up in neons, sequins, metallics, ruffles, and even feathers. MTV VMAs 2018: All the Moments You Need to Know About


The 2018 MTV VMAs aired tonight, and it was…well, interesting. Tiffany Haddish threw shade at Fifth Harmony, Shawn Mendes got rained on, Jennifer Lopez performed all her hits and left me star-fished on the floor (pun intended), and Madonna gave a tribute to Aretha Franklin that was more about herself than Franklin. (More on that later. Oof.) This year’s show clocked at just over two-and-a-half hours and featured a hodgepodge of performances and buzzy moments that will certainly have the Internet talking for days. Check out everything you need to know about the show, below:

When Hayley Kiyoko dedicated her PUSH Artist of the Year Award to the gay community. “This validates all queer women of color that you can follow your dreams,” she said.

Cardi B’s baby fake-out. The rapper opened the show in a gorgeous red dress, and she was swaddling…something…in her arms. At first people thought it was her baby, Kulture, but it was actually just one of the awards she won from the evening. She nearly had me there! (Actually, who am I kidding? She definitely had me there.)

Shawn Mendes’ performance. I understand why so many millennial girls like him now—he’s a very handsome man. And “In My Blood” is a bop.

Tiffany Haddish and Kevin Hart’s opening monologue. They made jokes about everything from the Jersey Shore cast to the fact so many celebrities are getting engaged this summer. Of course when they made that latter joke, the camera panned to Grande and Davidson. The Fifth Harmony joke Haddish made to Camila Cabello was ice cold, as well.

When Nicki Minaj came to Fifth Harmony’s defense. “Don’t come for Fifth Harmony because Normani is that bitch,” Minaj said to Haddish after she made her joke. I’m done! But, honestly, justice for Normani.

Ariana Grande shouting out Pete Davidson in her acceptance speech for Best Pop Video. “Pete Davidson, thanks for existing,” she said. And I’m swooning.

The Backstreet Boys doing a cappella versions of all the Song of the Year nominees. It was…interesting. Post Malone ultimately took home the award.

Nicki Minaj’s performance. She performed a medley of several songs from Queen, including “Majesty” and the reference-filled “Barbie Dreams” — and brought down the house, natch.

Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson’s red-carpet debut. Still not over it.

Jennifer Lopez’s Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award performance and acceptance speech. She performed all the hits you could want (“Jenny From the Block,” “I’m Real,” “Love Don’t Cost a Thing,” and more) and gave an emotional monologue, where she thanked her children, the directors of her videos, her family, and friends.

Ariana Grande’s performance of “God Is a Woman.” She took me to church.

Camila Cabello winning Artist of the Year. Her debut solo album is A+, and she also made a joke about Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande during her speech. That is the content I need. (She also took home the award for Video of the Year.)

The Hills is coming back. In a spinoff series called The Hills: New Beginnings, which will feature Heidi and Spencer Pratt, Audrina Patridge, and Whitney Port as they enter adulthood and the next stage of their lives.

Cardi B’s speech for Best New Artist. She shut down all the haters who said she was jeopardizing her career for having a baby. “I’m still winning awards,” she said with her signature laugh. Yes, she is.

Childish Gambino winning the award for Video With a Message for “This Is America.” It’s such an important video, so the award is well-deserved.

Madonna’s bizarre “tribute” to Aretha Franklin. The speech focused more on Madonna herself than Franklin, and many people aired their grievances about it on Twitter.

Camila Cabello won big tonight at the 2018 MTV VMAs, taking home the awards for Video of the Year and Artist of the Year. However, she wasn’t the only artist who received some shine during the show. Childish Gambino won several technical awards (plus the Video With a Message Award) for his poignant “This Is America” video, and the Carters walked away with Best Cinematography for “APES**T.” Overall, the winners were evenly dispersed and featured a wide array of genres and styles. Jennifer Lopez Went Full Jenny From the Block for Her 2018 MTV VMAs Performance


Before Jennifer Lopez took the stage for her career-spanning performance at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards, presenter Shawn Mendes pointed out that the awards were being held at Radio City Music Hall, just 13 subway stops away from the Bronx, where J.Lo grew up. It was a poignant lead-in to an electrifying performance that provided a stunning snapshot of her sprawling career. Now excuse us while we try to regain our composure.

J.Lo was on hand to accept the 2018 Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, honoring her lifetime achievement in music. But all that became secondary when she appeared in a blue and gold Versace robe that she quickly shed to reveal a shimmering gold bodysuit. And from there, it was on. J.Lo kicked off the medley with “Waiting for Tonight,” then seamlessly transitioned into throwback hits like “On the Floor,” “Let’s Get Loud,” “Dance Again,” “Ain’t Yo Mama,” “El Anillo,” “Love Don’t Cost a Thing,” “All I Have,” and “Jenny From the Block.”

And since no J.Lo performance would be complete without a myriad of on-the-fly outfit changes, she made sure to give us plenty of that too. At one point, she flung on a white fur coat, then disappeared, only to reemerge in a gold tracksuit, snapback and all.

Oh, and did we mention there was dancing? So. Much. Dancing. It’s no wonder her boyfriend, Alex Rodriguez, couldn’t contain his ear-to-ear grin from the audience. We were right there with him, especially when Ja Rule emerged to assist J.Lo on the classics “I’m Real” and “Ain’t It Funny.”

She eventually wrapped up the 10-minute performance with a surprise cameo from none other than DJ Khaled, who provided his unique brand of, er, vocals for her latest hit “Dinero.” Overall, it was a heart-stopping reminder of why J.Lo is and always will be one of the best to ever do it. Now excuse us while we watch it again, and again, and again.

Watch All the Performances From the 2018 MTV VMAs Right Here


Tonight’s performances at the 2018 MTV VMAs ran the gamut, from flashy pop numbers (Ariana Grande) to acoustic vibes (Shawn Mendes), and several spell-binding rap sets. (Nicki Minaj! Travis Scott! Post Malone!) Of course, a highlight of the evening was Jennifer Lopez’s Michael Jackson Video Vanguard performance, which featured an array of her greatest hits and some surprise guests (including Ja Rule). Watch all the performances for yourself, below, so you’ll know what everyone’s talking about.

Shawn Mendes. The singer performed his hit “In My Blood” wearing a white tank-top that felt very eighties-inspired. Where is his rom-com offer, TBH?

Bazzi. The up-and-comer gave an abridged performance of his song “Beautiful.” It was very sweet!

Logic and Ryan Tedder. They performed their joint song “One Day” as people wearing pro-immigration T-shirts stood in the background.

Panic! At the Disco. The beloved 2000s group sang their undeniably catchy song “High Hopes” to a very enthusiastic crowd. Brendon Urie looked like a snack-and-a-half, naturally.

Jessie Reyez. She gave a very soulful rendition of her song “Apple Juice” while wearing an overall get-up and white shoes.

Nicki Minaj. The Queen rapper performed a medley of her new songs, including “Majesty” and “Barbie Dreams,” which contains a laundry list of references and disses. The set, naturally, was Egyptian queen-inspired.

Hayley Kiyoko. The PUSH Artist Award winner did a short-but-energetic snippet of her song “Curious,” which is an absolute bop, for those who haven’t listened.

Jennifer Lopez. Her Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award medley was phenomenal and included excerpts of “Waiting for Tonight,” “On the Floor,” “Dance Again,” “Ain’t Your Mama,” “Booty,” “Love Don’t Cost a Thing,” “Get Right,” “Jenny From the Block,” and “I’m Real.”

Ariana Grande. The pop queen did her take on the Last Supper with a sultry performance of “God Is a Woman.”

Pretty Much. The group danced through a fun rendition of their track “Summer on You.”

Travis Scott and James Blake. Their performance was a sight for both the eyes and the ears: an energetic, full-out party, which included their songs “Stargazing, “Stop Trying to Be God, and “Sicko Mode.”

Juice Wrld. The rapper performed his song “Lucid Dreams” with lots of (juicy) Auto-Tune.

Maluma. “Felices los 4” has never sounded (or looked) sexier.

Lauv. This performance all but confirmed that “I Like Me Better” is a total jam.

Post Malone, 21 Savage, and Aerosmith. The unlikely trio did a hyped-up mash-up of “Rockstar,” “Dream On” and “Toys in the Attic.”

MTV VMAs 2018: All the Photos of Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson Looking Cute


Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson have been bopping around New York City for weeks now, but they just made their red carpet debut tonight (August 20) at the 2018 MTV VMAs. The newly engaged couple literally couldn’t keep their hands to themselves: Photographers caught them kissing, cuddling, and staring into each other’s eyes like…well, a newly engaged couple. Grande wore her signature thigh-high boots and a metallic mini-dress (with her hair surprisingly down instead of in a ponytail), while Davidson kept things more casual in a oversized white sweatshirt.

“It was just really simple and really sweet. We were just hanging out, he had a ring, and uh, yeah. He just asked me. It was really sweet,” Grande said last week about how Davidson proposed. “He didn’t get on a knee or anything, thank God… that would’ve been so googly.”
