Here's Everything We Know About Harry and Meghan's Second Royal Wedding Reception


The royal wedding ceremony was, as to be expected, simply stunning—that gown! the vows! the kiss!—and as soon as the carriage ride through Windsor was over, the 600 wedding guests and newlyweds gathered for the first reception of the day, which was hosted by the Queen.

Afterward, Meghan reappeared for the cameras changed into a sleek Stella McCartney gown—Harry in a tux—and the couple decamped in a vintage Jaguar to Frogmore House for their evening reception. This reception, hosted by Harry’s “pa” Prince Charles, saw a relatively small 250 people gathered at a royal retreat on the Windsor Castle grounds for what sounds like an incredible evening. The doors were closed to paparazzi and anyone not on the guest list—but here’s what we know so far.

The venue was one-of-a-kind.

Tucked inside 33 acres of Windsor Castle’s private grounds—where Harry and Meghan picnicked when they first started dating—is Frogmore House, a 17th-century residence where the reception was hosted. Outside? A glass marquee which was rumored to be custom-built and thought to have cost £300,000, or more than $400,000.

There was a surprise host.

Prince Charles technically threw the bash, but the event was hosted—in a total surprise—host by James Corden, he of Carpool Karaoke and the Late Late Show.

They had a cute bus to take guests to the reception.

Guests staying at the Coworth Park Hotel in Ascot hopped on a double-decker bus to be transported to Frogmore around 7:15 P.M. Other guests came in their own cars, larger buses, and minivans. Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie rolled up in a Bentley around 7:30.

However, the carefully coordinated plans weren’t without some snags: According to The Sun, George Clooney, who pulled up in a silver Audi, was apparently “delayed by cops” before heading into the reception. “The Hollywood A-lister was seen in an animated discussion with security guards for 10 minutes at the Frogmore House after-party on Saturday,” it reported. (The policeman, however, reportedly had a big smile on his face, so all signs point to a friendly fan interaction.)

Photographs might be hard to come by.

According to ET Online, it’s likely that guests were asked to surrender their phones upon arrival—meaning that what happens at a royal wedding reception stays at a royal evening reception. Will and Kate asked their guests to do the same, and to date, nothing’s surfaced.

Of course, this means that the evening reception will be where all the fun really happens. At least we have this glimpse of Meghan and Harry driving off in their (gorgeous) Jag:

Meghan Markle made a speech.

Royal expert Katie Nicholl told ET Online that Meghan would make her first speech as the Duchess of Sussex at the evening reception.

According to the Daily Mail, Meghan thanked the royal family for welcoming her into the family.

So did Prince William—well, his was more of a roast.

William and Harry had shared some adorable brotherly moments walking up to the church and waiting for Meghan, but William apparently really shone at the evening reception. A roast of the groom by his best man is pretty par for the course at British weddings, and according to the Daily Mail, Will got a bit “naughty.” Oh, to be a fly on that wall.

The music was relatable—to a degree.

The couple, who reportedly took a lot of care choosing the music for their second, apparently got down on the dance floor to house music (Harry’s favorite, according to The Sun). Apparently the playlist was whipped up by Sam Totolee, who also performed at Pippa Middleton’s wedding last year. Sounds fair enough—but then Elton John sat down to the piano again. Incredible.

The food sounds amazing and totally down-to-earth.

According to British tabloid The Sun, guests at the wedding at some pretty great food. According to the Daily Mail‘s sources, guests sat down to “spring meets summer”-themed canapes and an an organic dinner lasting from 7:30 until 10.

There was more to come, too: After a long day (and after a few drinks), who wouldn’t want to tuck into “dirty burgers” as a midnight snack? Candy floss—that’s cotton candy to us Yanks—was also on hand for those wanting something sweet as the clock struck 12.

Their signature cocktail is adorable—and the rest of the drinks sound pretty great, too.

According to The Sun, the couple concocted a cocktail called “When Harry Met Meghan.” The base was rum, and ginger (yep, apparently in a nod to the Duke of Sussex’s hair) was also featured.

If you weren’t keen on the signature cocktail, there was a “drinks of the world”-themed bar, according to the Daily Mail.

Fireworks rounded off the night.

Did we expect anything less from a royal wedding?

The royal newlyweds didn’t have to worry about driving home.

According to Sky News, the couple and Royal Family spent their first night there, but guests were funneled out of an exit photographers didn’t have access to.

But the party didn’t end there.

Apparently a few guests headed out of the castle and into the big city for an after-after party, beginning around 1 A.M., at Chiltern Firehouse in the posh London neighborhood of Marylebone. According to the Daily Mail, there was another party in the works too—at a soundproofed private house in the equally-fancy neighborhood of Chelsea.

4 Times Prince Harry Made Us Swoon at the (Well, His) Royal Wedding


On Saturday, the entire world let out a collective “aww” watching Prince Harry marry Meghan Markle at the royal wedding (a.k.a. the event of the year). The two got hitched in a gorgeous church; Meghan wore a Givenchy couture gown and stunningly embroidered veil for the vows; and Most Rev. Michael Curry, the Chicago bishop who delivered the ceremony’s sermon, electrified the service like few there had seen before.

But, well, Prince Harry is still Prince Harry. And yes, we understand that our ginger-haired royal dreams have been, as of today, dashed—but he still managed to steal our hearts today anyway (four times, to be precise).

That quick lip bite:

When Harry first caught a glimpse of his bride walking down the aisle, we could pretty much all feel his heart rate spike. As Meghan finally approached the altar to stand beside him, Harry looked visibly moved. “You look amazing,” he whispered to her before quickly biting his lower lip. Meghan smiled and replied, “Thank you.” Ah, true love.

Admitting he could use a drink:

Following the ceremony, the couple pulled away from the church in a gorgeous horse-drawn carriage. Meghan let out a simple “Wow” at her first site of the crowds. Harry, however, was little bit more cheeky: According to the Telegraph, who consulted with lip reader Tina Lannin, he said to his bride: “I’m ready for a drink now.” That seems more than reasonable.

During the couple’s first reception, a luncheon event hosted by the Queen, Harry reportedly grabbed the mic for an impromptu toast. According to a guest who attended the event and spoke to People, Harry delighted guests by calling Meghan “my wife” for the very first time.

“It was very off-the-cuff, which was lovely,” the guest revealed. “He promised that all the Americans wouldn’t steal the swords and said, ‘Please, when you leave, be quiet as you don’t want to wake the neighbors,’ which was quite fun.”

As the guest also noted, the event was “more than you would ever imagine it to be. It did feel like we were really part of their very special occasion. It just felt about the two of them, which was great.”

It’s clear that Prince Harry is beloved by all, and that apparently includes his ex-girlfriends. In fact, at least two of them were invited to the royal wedding and even showed up for the ceremony.

Both Chelsy Davy and Cressida Bonas, who each dated Prince Harry while he was in his 20s, attended the big day. Harry dated Davy on and off from 2011 to 2014, and he dated Bonas from 2012 to 2014 (the relationship allegedly ended because she wasn’t quite ready to go full royal), which, TBH, is fair.

Though it’s reported that neither ex was invited to the intimate reception tonight, it’s still nice to see that Harry left those relationships in a kind and respectful enough way that they’d both come to support him on his wedding day. Then again, of course he would.

Meghan Markle Will Omit 'Obey' in Her Vows to Prince Harry


On Friday evening (May 18), just hours before the royal wedding, the palace released Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s official order of service for their ceremony. There, it broke down the minute-by-minute plan for the couple’s big day and revealed a few key details. And, perhaps most importantly, it also revealed that Meghan will leave out the word “obey” from her vows—but more on that later. Here, a full breakdown of the order of service.

The music:

According to the order of service, the wedding will be filled with music by a variety of artists. That includes the choir of St. George’s Chapel, which will be conducted by James Vivian, the chapel’s director of music.

During the ceremony, the organ will be played by Luke Bond, the assistant director of music at St. George’s Chapel, and Jason Richards, the organ scholar at St. George’s. The organists will be accompanied by cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason.

The orchestra, according to the document, will be made up of musicians drawn from the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the English Chamber Orchestra, and the Philharmonia and will be conducted by Christopher Warren-Green. During Meghan’s procession down the aisle the orchestra will be joined by Elin Manahan Thomas (Soprano) and David Blackadder (Trumpet).

And, in a fun twist, Karen Gibson and The Kingdom Choir will sing “Stand By Me” following the couple’s vows. (In other words, have your tissues ready.)

The vows:

Like Kate Middleton before her, Meghan has chosen to omit the word “obey” from her vows. According to the order of service, Meghan’s vows will read:

“I Meghan, take you, Harry, to be my husband, to have and to hold from this day forward; for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part; according to God’s holy law. In the presence of God I make this vow.”

Harry’s vows will echo Meghan’s. Of course, Meghan’s decision to leave out “obey” shouldn’t really be a surprise. Meghan, after all, is a feminist who has long advocated for the betterment of women’s lives everywhere.

The readings:

In what will likely be one of the more emotional parts of the wedding ceremony, Lady Jane Fellowes, Princess Diana’s younger sister, will take to the altar to read from the Song of Solomon. It reads:

“My beloved speaks and says to me: ‘Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away; for now the winter is past, the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth; the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtle-dove is heard in our land. The fig tree puts forth its figs, and the vines are in blossom; they give forth fragrance. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.’Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm; for love is strong as death, passion fierce as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, a raging flame. Many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it. If one offered for love all the wealth of one’s house, it would be utterly scorned.”

When you can expect to see the Queen:

Yeah, it’s Meghan and Harry’s big day, but we all love a good queen sighting. According to the order of service, the rest of the royal family is expected to arrive around 11:25 a.m. local time. They will be seated at the Galilee Porch.

At 11:40 a.m., Prince Harry and his best man, Prince William, will arrive. A few minutes later, Prince Charles and his wife Camilla will arrive. They will be followed by Meghan’s mother, Doria. Finally, at 11:52 a.m. local time, Her Majesty The Queen is expected to arrive at the Galilee Porch. She will be received by the Dean of Windsor, who will present the Canons of Windsor and the Archbishop of Canterbury. Everyone is expected to stand. Oh yeah, Meghan will make her grand entrance after that.

One little error:

The order of service was likely assembled and sent to printers weeks ago, which is likely why it still lists Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas, as walking her down the aisle.

“The Bride, having been greeted by the Dean of Windsor, moves in procession through the Nave where she is joined by her Father, Mr Thomas Markle, to the High Altar. The Bridegroom and his Best Man await,” the program reads.

However, as we now know, Meghan will be making another feminist statement by choosing to enter the church alone. She’ll partially walk herself down the aisle before meeting Prince Charles halfway. He then will step back as she approaches Harry. Then, the pair will say their vows and, undoubtedly, live happily ever.

How Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Royal Wedding Will Be Different From Prince William and Kate Middleton's


Back in 2011, I arrived in London a week before Prince William and Kate Middleton’s royal wedding and found my first souvenir of their big day at the entrance to the Underground: Transport for London had released a batch of limited edition Oyster cards (a pass used for public transportation) that featured an engagement photo of the happy couple. This time around, though, as William’s brother Prince Harry prepares to marry American actress Meghan Markle on May 19, no commemorative travel cards are being issued—a small but telling sign of how different this wedding will likely be from the one that took place seven years ago.

It’s natural to compare the two occasions: Before William and Kate exchanged vows, the last major royal wedding to capture the public’s attention so spectacularly was that of Prince Charles to Lady Diana Spencer in 1981. But there’s a lot of key differences between the two, especially in the tone and atmosphere. Prince William, as the second in line to the throne, had much more responsibilities, which played out on his wedding day in the guests, formalities, and traditions that were expected to be followed. But from the moment Harry and Meghan’s engagement was announced, the two have expressed their wish to make this day their own. “This wedding, like all weddings, will be a moment of fun and joy that will reflect the characters and values of the bride and groom,” Kensington Palace said in a statement.

Here, the biggest differences between the two royal weddings you can expect to see.

The Day

Prince William’s ceremony was on a Friday (April 29), which followed the long-held tradition of royal weddings taking place on a weekday. And, because of this, the day became an official bank holiday—meaning many people got the day off work, something that certainly improved attitudes toward the royal family. Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding, however, breaks with the tradition: It’s on a Saturday (May 19). It also takes place on the same date as a major sporting event: the FA Cup soccer (or football, if you prefer) tournament. Prince William, who’s president of the Football Association, will be missing it to be the best man at Harry’s wedding.

The Location

Getting married at Westminster Abbey, one of the U.K.’s oldest churches with a history stretching back over a thousand years, gave Will and Kate’s day a grandiosity that simply won’t be part of Harry and Meghan’s. The latter have scaled down a bit, opting instead for the intimate St. George’s Chapel nestled within the grounds of Windsor Castle. St. George’s only holds about 800 people, compared to Westminster’s 2,000.

The Guests

Because Prince Harry is sixth in line to the throne, he’s not expected to include all the dignitaries that his brother had to. In other words, President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Theresa May are not invited. Instead, guests at Harry and Meghan’s wedding will be people who have a relationship with the couple—friends like Priyanka Chopra. (Rihanna, though, will not be there.) 600 guests have reportedly been invited to the ceremony and the lunchtime reception, with only 200 close family and friends attending a party hosted later that night by Prince Charles at Frogmore House. (Prince Charles also hosted an evening party for William.) Additionally, thousands of people—including charity workers, school children, and Windsor residents—have been invited to watch the arrival and departure of the bride and groom.

The Spectators

As for the greater public, Kensington Palace has confirmed there will be large screens in Windsor to watch the event, as well as a number of viewing areas and decorations. No doubt many of the royal fans who flocked to London for William and Kate will be there to celebrate—after all, dozens set up tents and camped out ahead of April 29, 2011 event. This time, though, there might be slightly less enthusiastic die-hards: Windsor’s council has advised that camping is forbidden, and tents along the procession route have also been banned.

The Dress

Like Kate did in 2011, Meghan is keeping mum on the designer and details of the dress she’ll be saying her vows in. That said, sources claim Ralph & Russo, who made her stunning engagement dress, will be behind her gown. Meghan will likely be wearing two dresses—one for the wedding ceremony, and one for the evening celebration—as Kate did. And just like Kate, the Queen will see the dress before the groom following royal protocol.

The Cake

In what’s being seen as a reflection of their modern views, Meghan and Prince Harry have commissioned Claire Ptak, owner of London-based Violet Bakery, to make a lemon elderflower cake with buttercream frosting and decorated with fresh flowers. This is in place of the traditional fruitcake that’s been at many a royal wedding before, including Kate and William’s. They had an eight-tier one—along with a chocolate biscuit groom’s cake.

THE BALCONY KISS

The Photo Opps

For all its formalities, Kate and William’s 2011 wedding left us with a fairytale image: that kiss on the balcony. But location logistics means this moment is unlikely to happen for Harry and Meghan. Instead, they’ll take a short carriage ride, from St. George’s Chapel through Windsor Town and back after the ceremony. Still, we’ll surely get something iconic.

The Souvenirs

Although there won’t be any travel cards bearing the faces of Harry and Meghan, the couple will get a special commemorative five-pound coin, just asWilliam and Kate did. And walking the streets of London, there are still plenty of other trinkets to be found marking Harry and Meghan’s upcoming nuptials, including plates and mugs with their faces on them. And, as a further indication of the welcome change Meghan seems to be ushering in, local artist Emma Bridgewater has created Harry and Meghan mugs with the words “game-changers” and “free spirits” written on them.

The Hotels Where Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Are Staying Before Their Wedding Are Beyond


It seems safe to say that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will be residing in fancy digs for the rest of their lives. Before they were engaged, the couple stayed in a cute cottage on the Kensington Palace grounds; after they tie the knot on May 19, it’s rumored they’ll move into a posh apartment adjacent to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s residence. They have all these opulent properties at their fingertips, and the night before their wedding will be no exception: Markle and Prince Harry are reportedly opting to stay in some very nice hotels ahead of the event.

A royals expert named Omid Scobie tweeted the scoop on Monday, May 14. “#RoyalWedding news! The night before their wedding, #HarryandMeghan will stay at separate hotels around Windsor: Harry will stay at the @CoworthParkUK with Prince William. Meghan and mom Doria Ragland will stay at @Cliveden_House on the National Trust’s Cliveden Estate,” he tweeted. Check it out for yourself, below:

Both Coworth Park and Cliveden Estate are luxurious, five-star hotels located near St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, where Markle and Prince Harry will have their ceremony. A basic room at Coworth Park is roughly $432 a night, while the accommodations at Cliveden run about $445 a night. That’s a steep price, I know, but if you have cash to spare your Meghan Markle Experience is just two clicks away—well, and a flight if you’re not in the London area.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Lifetime Movie: Review


The two most important pop-culture events happening this week are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Lifetime movie. The latter premiered tonight—after weeks of anticipation—and, guys, it didn’t disappoint. The movie had everything you could want and more: Suits references, snobby British people, quips about Prince William’s hair, jokes about Markle’s Deal or No Deal gig (that last one still has me shouting). Interspersed with this was the story behind Markle and Prince Harry’s romance, which should be taken with a grain of salt, of course. This is an unauthorized Lifetime movie, after all. Even still, it was wickedly entertaining and further fueled my obsession with Markle—and Suits, a show I’ve never seen but now religiously watch interviews about on YouTube. I have a problem.

Anyway, here are 79 thoughts I had while watching the Lifetime movie—many of which are about Suits.

  1. This movie opens up with Young Harry in Botswana wistfully looking out a Jeep window. He’s clearly thinking, “In 20 years, an actress from an American cable network will complete me.”

  2. Prince Charles calls William and Harry “my darling boys,” and it’s hilarious.

  3. Harry running away from his dad in Africa after he tried to talk to him about Diana is a mood.

  4. A flashback scene of Harry and Princess Diana stealing doughnuts from the palace is my permanent aesthetic.

  5. But then, holy shit: There’s a LION right next to Prince Harry right now. This escalated.

  6. There’s also a scene with a young feminist Meghan Markle. She’s writing a letter to a cleaning product company because their commercial was sexist. (This really happened.

  7. Also, I have a crush on her dad in this movie.

  8. The movie really picks up when Meghan starts filming Suits. Were there really sketchy directors who tried to over-sexualize her character, Rachel Zane? This is news to me. Love that Meghan’s shutting it down, though.

  9. Meanwhile, Prince Harry is clubbing. And Prince William’s shaming him for it.

  10. Now Harry’s pouting about not having someone. Little does he know Meghan Markle’s just around the corner.

  11. The actor who’s playing Prince Harry is hot. That’s all.

  12. The actor who’s playing Prince William has a delightful voice. That’s all.

  13. Thank god the movie’s stylist didn’t forget to include Prince Harry’s bracelets!

  14. “I’d hoped that after the Nazi uniform and stripping down and showing off the family jewels in Las Vegas, we were past all this.” – Prince Charles, being a shady future king.

  15. The way they’re depicting Prince William and Kate Middleotn’s marriage in this movie is strange. William’s, like, a lunkish man-child and Kate’s always keeping his shit in order. Wouldn’t be surprised if that were true, though.

  1. What the hell? One of the Suits makeup people just jabbed at Meghan Markle for “not getting any younger.” Rude.

  2. “He’s handsome, rich, and unlike his older brother, he’s still got his hair” – The friend who set Meghan and Harry up. I’m crying.

  4. The only question Prince Harry asked the friend about Meghan is, “Is she hot?” Groan, groan, groan.

  7. She’s not that mad, though: They start flirting, but it’s so cheesy. I can’t. This truly is the romance movie version of Meghan and Harry.

  9. I love how they just ping-pong their philanthropic accomplishments back and forth on this date.

  11. But, yeah, they’re adorable. I love Meghan Markle. Even this fake one.

  6. Finally, we’re watching them cook the famous roast chicken. And there’s a ring! It’s a whole thing! And just like that, the star of Suits became a royal.

  7. “Good afternoon. My first order of business is to announce that my grandson, His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales, will be marrying a divorced African American lady. Everybody on board? Lovely.” – Queen Elizabeth being both a literal and figurative queen.
