Kaia Gerber Gave Herself a Tattoo in Quarantine

I’ve been obsessed with Marc Jacobs’ Daisy campaigns since the day the perfume launched. In high school, my walls were plastered with the ads torn out of magazines. I wore the fragrance religiously, and to this day, the hazy, dreamy commercials transport me to a fantasy world. So naturally, I was thrilled to chat with Kaia Gerber, who has starred in the past few campaigns, only to discover she feels the exact same.

“Every time I get to go back and work with Marc, it just feels like a family,” says the 18-year-old model. “I feel so grateful to work with people who are so lovely. They create such a warm, loving environment, which I think you can really see in the campaign. All that laughter, and when we’re running through the field, we’re actually having an incredible time.”

We could all use a bit of that warm feeling and escapism right now, including Gerber, who’s currently self isolating at home in L.A. She might be a supermodel—and the progeny of one; her mom is Cindy Crawford!—but when it comes to quarantine beauty temptations, she’s just like the rest of us. Currently, she’s debating a major haircut, a new tattoo, and a DIY mani. Like I said, relatable. Ahead, she answers all of Glamour’s Big Beauty Questions, including her beauty must-haves, biggest inspirations, and how she’s keeping calm in quarantine.

How does wearing Daisy make you feel?

It’s a super feminine, youthful scent. It just brings me back since I’ve been wearing it since I was 12 or 13. It’s a very comforting smell.

Has your self-care routine changed at all while we’ve been stuck in isolation?

I’ve had more time to do self-care, which I’ve been trying to take advantage of. I’ve been wearing less makeup and taking more time to make sure my skin is good. I think eating healthy, cooking, and drinking a lot of water has been really good for it. A lot of times I fill up on junk food—when you’re working, it’s hard to monitor what you’re putting in your body. Focusing on my internal health really has helped with my skin.

Are you loving any certain nail colors right now? Have you tried anything fun while we’re in quarantine?

Kaia Gerber Will Design a Capsule Collection for Karl Lagerfeld

After Kaia Gerber made her runway debut last fall, walking for designers from Calvin Klein to Saint Laurent, pretty much everyone in the fashion industry came to the same conclusion: This sixteen-year-old model is one to watch. (And, we’re just a little obsessed with her runway walk.) Now, Gerber is adding another impressive title to her rapidly-growing résumé: designer.

WWD reports that Gerber will join forces with Karl Lagerfeld to design a capsule collection for his eponymous apparel line. The collaboration, set to drop in September (just in time for Fashion Week!), will include clothing, shoes, and accessories like sunglasses and jewelry, according to British Vogue. And the aesthetic? Think Gerber’s native West Coast meets Lagerfeld’s Paris—i.e., casual yet very chic.

Nabbing Gerber for her first fashion line is no small feat—and reps from Karl Lagerfeld were understandably excited about the forthcoming collection. Pier Paolo Righi, chief executive officer of Karl Lagerfeld, told WWD that the pair have been hard at work on the collection over the last few months: “We were all excited by the incredible potential and power of bringing their two worlds together.” Righi added that Gerber has shown “passion and engagement” with designing the line, and that “the collection will definitely inspire many young women.”

Ever since she opened opening the Chanel Spring 2018 show during Paris Fashion Week, Gerber has traveled to Germany to walk its Métiers d’Art show and to Hong Kong to fête its new exhibit—so, clearly, she’s been on Lagerfeld’s radar. And though this pair-up is for the designer’s own line—not for Chanel or Fendi—we have a feeling it’ll still end up on some high-profile friends of Gerber’s.

So if you’re one of the many fashion fanatics who has followed Gerber’s meteoric rise to the head of the fashion pack in the last year, mark your calendars for September 2018—when Karl Lagerfeld x Kaia finally drops, it’ll go fast.

Kaia Gerber Just Walked Her First NYFW Runway

Fashion world, brace yourself, for the time of Kaia Gerber has arrived: The teenage clone daughter of Cindy Crawford just walked her first NYFW runway.

And what a debut she made. Gerber booked one of the most talked-about shows of the first leg of Fashion Month: Raf Simons’ sophomore collection for Calvin Klein.

Shortly after the Spring 2018 runway wrapped, the model took to Instagram to share the news: “CALVIN KLEIN! there are no words to describe how I feel, I love you endlessly Raf!,” Gerber wrote.

Her big Fashion Week reveal was actually prematurely revealed by Karlie Kloss, when the 25-year-old model posted a picture of her and Gerber in white robes and slippers, presumably backstage preparing for a show, wishing her a happy first NYFW. (“This chicks gonna take her first #NYFW (and the ?) by storm ? luv ya @kaiagerber,” Kloss captioned it.) It was anticipated, if not expected, that Spring 2018 would be Gerber’s big season: She just turned 16—and we do mean just, as her birthday was a few days ago, on September 3—making her eligible to walk the runway in New York, per the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA)’s guidelines. Plus, her mom might’ve spilled the beans to WWD last month.

Though Gerber is only now working the Fashion Month circuit, she’s been preparing for this moment—and making waves across the industry in other ways—for a while now. The 16-year-old, who is represented by IMG, was named Breakout Model of the year by Fashion Week Daily in 2016 for her editorial work and Marc Jacobs Beauty contract. (Oh, and the fact that she’s a spitting image of Cindy Crawford.)

Get used to that walk, folks, for this is probably the first of many Kaia sightings during the Spring 2018 season. She’s starred in campaigns for Marc Jacobs and Alexander Wang in the past, after all—who’s to say she won’t show up on their lineups, too?
