Meghan Markle’s wedding hair has been a topic of conversation since the moment she came into the royal-adjacent spotlight, and at long last, we finally know Meghan Markle’s wedding hairstyle. If you hedged your bets, it’s time to collect: this morning, Meghan emerged en route to Windsor Castle with a low bun and Queen Mary of the United Kingdom’s Filigree Tiara—a beautiful interpretation of her now famous messy bun.
According to The Sun, Meghan used Amal Clooney’s hairstylist, Miguel Perez, for her wedding updo. Clooney was also in attendance for the wedding, and wore her in loose waves under a bright marigold hat. Perez is based at John Viale’s Salon Sloane in Chelsea, London, has been working with Amal for years. Reportedly, Meghan met Perez through Clooney.
The bun has become Meghan’s signature over the past few months, taking on significance as a status symbol of modern royalty. A messy bun might not be groundbreaking news to modern women, and if you’ve gone through finals, to the gym, or outside on a Sunday, chances are you’ve worn some variation on Meghan’s go-to look. Even so, the fact that Meghan’s holding onto the person she was before joining the monarchy speaks volumes to the approach she’ll take to being royal. She’s not coming in as a blank slate to be shaped, and crazy as it may seem, that’s almost unheard of for people who become royal.

Take Kate Middleton: Without any shade whatsoever, it’s fair to say that she upholds the royal standards of looking coiffed at all times. Meghan’s buns are barely messy, but they’re distinctly more low-key than Kate’s go-to blowout.
Each to their own, but it’s a big deal to break protocol, and in her hair and elsewhere, Meghan’s leading that charge. That said, Meghan most certainly did not wake up like that. According to Lydia F. Sellers, Meghan’s hairstylist for the years before she was engaged, her smooth, relaxed waves come from a few key products. First would come Oribe’s volumizing spray for that lift at her roots, and then Kerastasé Oleo Relax treatment to smooth Meghan’s curls down from their naturally bouncing state, Sellers told Refinery29.

On top of that, London hairstylist Theonie Kakoulli has said that Meghan is a fan of keratin treatments, and has visited her twice for the smoothing, de-frizzing treatment. At this point, we can’t say if those products exactly were in Meghan’s hair (details are still to come). They are failsafe go-tos in the hair world—and once you smell that Oribe specifically, it’s not easy to part with.
