Prince William Reportedly Thinks Prince Harry Is Going ’Overboard’ With Archie’s Privacy

If there’s one thing Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have indicated they appreciate as public figures, it’s their privacy. They’ve been especially private about their newborn son, Archie, but if royals sources are to be believed, Prince William thinks they’re overdoing it just a bit.

According to Us Weekly, baby Archie’s recent christening complicated things in the royal family. You see, the atmosphere for the christenings of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, was much more public, with arrivals visible (and even a wave from Charlotte to photogs), but Archie’s was different: In a statement released through Buckingham Palace, Markle and Prince Harry indicated they wanted Archie’s celebration to be an intimate family affair. According to royals insiders who spoke to Us Weekly, this didn’t rub Prince William and Middleton the right away.

“The queen accepted Harry and Meghan’s decision to keep the event private,” the source said, but added that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge “weren’t happy about it.” The source continued by saying that “William thinks his brother is going overboard keeping Archie out of the spotlight,” and that he “blames Meghan” for his approach.

Granted, none of this has been confirmed, so take it with a grain of salt. If Markle and Prince Harry want to make Archie’s life more private, that’s totally in their right to do so. That being said, this story does contribute to the idea of a feud existing among the Sussexes and the Cambridges. People have gone as far as analyzing Prince William and Middleton’s body language at Archie’s christening to find evidence of a rift. But a royals expert, Katie Nicholl, told Glamour a few months back this just isn’t the case.

“I do think there is some truth to there having been some tension—not just between the duchesses but between the dukes, as well,” she said. “As we all know, things can gather momentum pretty quickly. So while I think there’s been tension, I don’t believe there has been some feud.”

People Keep Analyzing Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Behavior at Archie’s Christening

The whole thing is rubbish, in my opinion. Kate Middleton’s smile in this christening photo looks no different than how she’s appeared in other similar shoots. The Daily Mail‘s body language expert even backed this up, adding that her pose could just be a case of her wanting to “lower her own status signals and not upstage the happy couple.”

And if Prince William seems “sour” in the picture, it probably has nothing to do with his feelings toward his brother. Maybe he’s tired. Maybe he’s hungry. Maybe he’s annoyed because he’d rather be watching Love Island on his couch than posing for photos. Wouldn’t we all?

At the end of the day, none of us know the real story behind Harry, William, Meghan, and Kate’s relationship—but to suggest that the Cambridges were miserable during Archie’s christening seems like a stretch. They’re adults. While they probably weren’t thrilled about spending the day taking stuffy photos with their in-laws, they know it’s a part of the gig. Even the closest of siblings would find posing for formal portraits together all day annoying.

And furthermore, royals expert told Katie Nicholl told Glamour a few months back that reports of a feud between the couples is overblown. “I do think there is some truth to there having been some tension—not just between the duchesses but between the dukes, as well,” she said. “As we all know, things can gather momentum pretty quickly. So while I think there’s been tension, I don’t believe there has been some feud.”

Baby Archie’s Christening: Everything We Know So Far

It feels like only yesterday that we were speculating about when Baby Archie would make his arrival into the world. Now the littlest Sussex is almost two months old and his parents, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, are hard at work planning his christening—a big tradition for royals.

Buckingham Palace recently announced a few details of the event, which is scheduled to happen on July 6. The ceremony is going to be small and private—not a surprise, since Markle and Prince Harry usually like to keep things on the quieter and more personal side. A lot of people aren’t happy about that: On social media there were several complaints that Archie’s baptism would be less public than the ones his cousins Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis all had.

Even though most of the proceedings are still under wraps, a few details have emerged over the last few weeks. Here’s what we know so far.

The location: The christening will take place at Queen Elizabeth’s private chapel at Windsor Castle. According to People, Markle and Prince Harry were intentional about having it there because they “wanted an intimate, peaceful setting in a place with such a special connection to her majesty.” The chapel is super close to Markle and Prince Harry’s own home at the recently renovated Frogmore Cottage.

The guests: The gathering reportedly will include only about 25 very close family members and friends. Hello! claims that Markle’s mom, Doria Ragland, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla Parker-Bowles are all planning to be there.

The officiant: Buckingham Palace has shared that the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, will perform the ceremony. He’s the senior bishop and principal leader of the Church of England who actually baptized Markle ahead of the royal wedding in 2018.

The godparents: There’s already been a ton of speculation about who the godparents might be. Markle’s buds Serena Williams and Jessica Mulroney have both emerged as possible candidates. Some people also think the godmother might be Violet von Westenholz, the childhood friend of Prince Harry’s who introduced him to Markle.
