Sephora Announces Its First Beauty Convention, 'Sephoria: House of Beauty'

With all the colors, swatches to try, and tools to play with, walking into Sephora is basically the beauty equivalent of going to Disneyland. But now, in honor of the retailer’s 20th anniversary, that beauty playground mentality is becoming even bigger and better. Sephora just announced that it’s going to be throwing its first convention later this year. Think: the Sephora version of BeautyCon.

On October 20 and 21 at its Downtown L.A. location, Sephora will be hosting Sephoria: House of Beauty, a “highly-immersive two-day beauty event fusing high-touch physical and digital experiences,” the brand said in a statement. While it’s not yet clear exactly what the experiences will entail, you can bet there will be plenty of Insta-bait.

According to the brand, there will be interactive rooms to explore, and participants will have the chance to mingle with influencers, brand founders, and other beauty industry pros. The event will also include more than 50 of Sephora’s brands—including skin care, hair care, makeup, and fragrance—along with “personalized products” that will be up for grabs. Again, there’s no word on which ones, but as Business of Fashion points out, Fenty Beauty is an exclusive to Sephora.

Sephora isn’t the first beauty brand to venture into the experiential event space; though, it’s arguably the biggest. And while paying to go shopping and stand in long lines might sound like a version of hell to some, by now, it’s proven that plenty are willing to shell out big money for the experience. Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop Summit in New York City this year was a hit. It sold out all 600 tickets, ranging from $650 to $2,000 each. Chanel, meanwhile, hosted a pop-up called Chanel Beauty House in L.A. in March to celebrate the launch of its new Instagram page @welovecoco. (No doubt, you saw the photos from its “content room” cross your feed.) While entrance was free, the retail opportunities were plenty.

Tickets for Sephoria: House of Beauty go on sale on July 21, but VIB and Insider Rouge members will be given advanced access. Cost is still TBD, but to stay in the loop you can sign up for updates on Sephoria.com. It’s safe to say, there’s going to be competition if you’re serious about landing a ticket.

Rihanna Announces Savage x Fenty Lingerie Line

Hang on to your tax return check, and make some room in your top drawer: The next category in Rihanna‘s ever-growing Fenty empire is… lingerie.

The rumor mill started churning earlier this week, when Rihanna began posting mysterious images and videos on her Instagram, referencing the line in her song, “Needed Me,” that goes: “Didn’t I tell you that I was a savage?” Fans began speculating about the meaning of it all, with the prevailing theory being that she would launch a lingerie line. A Savage x Fenty Instagram account went live, as did a website with the same name.

In a short clip she uploaded on Friday, she confirmed the news: “We bout to light this up sis!!? … introducing @SAVAGEXFENTY lingerie coming soon,” Rihanna captioned a video, which showed the words “SAVAGE,” “X,” and “FENTY” flashing between close-up shots of women in red and pink lingerie.

As of now, the Savage x Fenty website only hosts a form to sign up for the brand’s mailing list. However, this feature reveals that Rihanna’s upcoming lingerie line will take on the same inclusive approach to undergarments as Fenty Beauty did to makeup: After entering your email and country, potential customers are prompted to choose their bra and underwear sizes from a drop-down menu, which include bra sizes from 32A to 44DD and underwear ranging from XS to XXXL. So, you can expect the initial offering of Savage x Fenty to be much more accessible than many mainstream lingerie collections.

Though she has yet to share any more sneak previews of the line, there’s no doubt that each piece will be ultra-sexy and will pair perfectly with a healthy dose of shimmery Fenty Beauty Body Lava body glitter.

Taylor Swift Announces the Launch of Her Very Own Lifestyle App, The Swift Life

PHOTO: Taylor Swift/YouTube

Taylor Swift is finally joining the ranks of all five of the Kardashian-Jenner sisters, Lindsay Lohan, and Britney Spears: She is launching her very own lifestyle app. Which probably means that, by the end of the year, the singer will be dominating the music charts and the app store.

T. Swift announced her app, called “The Swift Life,” in a video posted to YouTube on Tuesday. Launching later this year, it’s described as “a creative, inclusive, and community-driven place for users to better connect with each other…and Taylor!”

According to The Verge, The Swift Life was built in partnership with Glu, the firm behind mobile games from other celebs like Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, and Kim Kardashian (interesting clientele list, all things considered). In a press release, Glu’s CEO vaguely described the app as “a new digital entertainment project” and “a deeply social environment.”

From the looks of the YouTube clip—which opens with Swift telling fans she’s got something “pretty awesome that we’ve been working on for a while” that she wants to share—it looks like the The Swift Life will be a social platform where Swifties can connect and soak up each other’s (and Taylor’s) awesomeness. Users will have access to exclusive T. Swift content, including pictures, videos, and some pretty badass looking Taymojis (she’s coming for you, Kim K). Most importantly, the app gives Tay ample opportunity to engage in one of her favorite pastimes: sliding into unsuspecting fans’ DM’s and liking and commenting on their photos.

“I think you guys are really gonna like this,” she says at the end of the YouTube announcement. “I mean, I hope. It would be preferable if you did.”

So it seems the only questions left to answer is, are we ready for it?
