Pamela Anderson Says #MeToo 'Paralyzes Men,' Thinks 'Feminism Is A Bore'


Another woman has come forward to denounce the #MeToo movement: Former “Playmate” Pamela Anderson.

In an interview with 60 Minutes Australia on Sunday, Anderson spoke openly about everything from her history-making work with Playboy, to her relationship with WikiLeaks editor Julian Assange—but it was her candid, controversial thoughts on modern feminism and the #MeToo movement that sparked national interest and made headlines.

While explaining to her interviewer that she felt Playboy was an “empowering” enterprise for women, and herself in particular, she began speaking about 21st-Century feminism, calling the movement “a bore,” denouncing #MeToo survivors’ legitimacy and claiming that the overall movement has gotten to be “too much.”

“I think this feminism can go too far,” she said. “I’m a feminist, but I think that this third wave feminism is a bore.”

Without much probing, Anderson went on to voice more specific grievances with the #MeToo movement, stating that, in her eyes, men are the real victims. “I think it paralyzes men,” she said. “This #MeToo movement is a bit too much for me. I’m sorry, I’ll probably get killed for saying that,” to which her interviewer quickly replied: “You will.”

But Anderson didn’t stop there: After voicing her concerns with #MeToo, the former Playboy model explained how she would act if she ever found herself in the company of Harvey Weinstein, or another like him, stating that some things “are just common sense,” and again, seemingly suggesting that the victims of the #MeToo movement were at fault.

“My mother taught me: Don’t go to into a hotel with a stranger. And if someone answers the door in a bathrobe and it’s supposed to be a business meeting, maybe I should go with somebody else,” she said. “I think that some things are just common sense. Or if you go in, get the job,” she said, laughing. “I’m Canadian I’m going to speak my mind okay? I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m not politically correct, maybe.”

Anderson is one of a handful of female celebrities to have openly denounced the #MeToo or Time’s Up movements. Before Anderson, 74-year-old French actress Catherine Deneuve, known for her decades-long career, signed an open letter challenging the #MeToo movement and its French counterpart #Balancetonporc, claiming that the campaigns contribute to “puritanical” and “totalitarian” thinking. Similarly, French film icon Brigitte Bardot previously referred to the movement as “hypocritical and ridiculous.”

And while Anderson claims to be a feminist herself, her comments appear to align more cohesively with anti-Feminist rhetoric. Just one month ago, President Donald Trump similarly empathized with America’s young men in the midst of the hearings for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, stating at a campaign rally that “it’s a very scary time for young men in America” right now. Similarly, First Lady Melania Trump said women need “hard evidence” when making sexual assault claims against men.

Uniqlo x J.W. Anderson: The Best Pieces to Buy From Spring's Best Fashion Collaboration


The excitement of the Moschino x H&M—or, rather, Moschino [tv] H&M, as it’s officially stylized—announcement is still fresh, but don’t let the buzz distract you from other, more timely designer pair-ups that merit your attention. May we direct your attention to Uniqlo, where a fresh patch of Jonathan Anderson designs have just dropped for your springtime enjoyment? Oh, and did we mention everything’s under $60?

This is Anderson’s second collection for Uniqlo’s LifeWear line, the first having been unveiled last summer and released in the fall to much editorial and commercial success. “I’ve done collaborations before, but the difference with Uniqlo is that they make the material,” Anderson told WWD. “If you take, for example, the cotton T-shirt, the fabric is incredible, the cut is incredible, so ultimately it raises the bar quite high.”

What really sets Anderson’s collaborations aside—in addition to his distinct approach to heritage and patterns—is the role they play in his business: Hot off the heels of the Uniqlo news, the designer announced, via Business of Fashion a new strategy for his namesake line focused on affordable collaborations, so that more shoppers could buy into his namesake label without necessarily paying a three- or four-figure price tag. First came Uniqlo, then came Converse. Of the thinking behind this, Anderson told WWD: “I believe, for example, I work for a luxury group, I have a start-up as J.W. Anderson, and I have done a collaboration with Uniqlo. There is something in that combination for me that [says], that is modernity—that the white T-shirt can be worn with the J.W. Anderson knit, or it can have the leather bag from Loewe. Why not?”

So, when you’re shopping Uniqlo x J.W. Anderson, it’s not necessarily a lesser version of what you see on the runway or in street style—it’s part of the fabric of the brand, as much as Loewe’s famous pierce bags or the main line’s gorgeous knits. The shopper can decide how and at what price point they enter the universe crafted by the designer. And if spring 2018’s the time, and Uniqlo’s the place, get ready for a lot of khaki and duck motifs in your future.

    Taylor Swift Serves as a Bridesmaid for Her Best Friend Abigail Anderson


    Aside from launching a massive, record-breaking single and releasing a music video that’s spawned a thousand fan theories—you know, normal things—Taylor Swift has mostly remained out of the public eye lately. She even skipped this year’s MTV VMAs, even though the award show was premiering her “Look What You Made Me Do” video and, in past years, was a favorite red carpet event of hers.

    After a year-plus of ups and downs, it makes sense Taylor would want to keep her private life…well, private. That said, if there’s one thing that can get the singer to make a rare appearance it’d be a squad member’s wedding—especially one where Taylor is a bridesmaid.

    On Sunday, September 2, Taylor was photographed at her best friend Abigail Anderson’s wedding in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. (Taylor’s mom, Andrea Swift, was also there!) Taylor wore a floor-length burgundy gown with a sweetheart neckline and matching lipstick. According to E! News, an eyewitness says Taylor was dressed in the same color as the bridesmaids and flower girls, but the singer’s dress was a different style than the other ‘maids. We’re looking into who makes the dress and will keep you posted once we find out. Until then, take a look:

    As any proper Taylor fan knows by now, Taylor and Abigail have been friends since high school—the song “Fifteen” was famously written about Abigail. Since then, they’ve remained close. Abigail even scored an invite to Taylor’s infamous Fourth of July party last year—yes, the one with the “I <3 T.S.” shirt.

    Taylor also threw Abigail and her fiancé (now husband), Matt Lucier, an engagement celebration:
