As usual, tonight’s Grammys offered up many exciting moments for the winners—and some serious disappointments, especially for a few deserving ladies. Basically, the winners circle was a total boys club, even on a night when many artists carried or wore white roses to symbolize support for the Time’s Up movement. Ed Sheeran—the only male nominee for Best Pop Solo Performance—took home the trophy for “Shape of You,” beating out Kesha, Kelly Clarkson, Lady Gaga, and Pink. Twitter was not pleased. And Lorde—the only woman nominated for Album of the Year—lost to Bruno Mars. But Alessia Cara is this year’s Best New Artist and our queen Rihanna won a Grammy for her collaboration with one of the night’s multiple trophy winners, Kendrick Lamar. But frankly, that’s an embarrassingly low number in a year where women dominated the charts and the conversation.
Here’s hoping for more diverse results in 2019.
