First Lady Melania Trump Had Kidney Surgery This Morning


First Lady Melania Trump underwent kidney surgery this morning at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center near Washington, D.C., her office announced today (Monday, May 14) in a statement.

Trump, who turned 48 last month, had been experiencing a recurring issue with her kidney that her office describes as benign. According to the statement, the procedure was successful and Trump experienced no complications. Still, she’s expected to remain under hospital supervision for the rest of the week following the procedure.

“Melania Trump underwent an embolization procedure to treat a benign kidney issue,” the statement said. “The procedure was successful and there were no complications. … [She] will likely remain there for the duration of the week. The First Lady looks forward to a full recovery so she can continue her work on behalf of children everywhere.” Embolization procedures help reduce or cut off the supply of blood to a tumor or other abnormal growth, according to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America.

Prior to today’s hospitalization, Trump appeared outwardly in good health this week. On May 7, she unveiled her newest philanthropic initiative, Be Best, which focuses on the well-being of children and kindness and safety for kids using social media. This was followed by an appearance on May 11 at a ceremony for Military Mothers and Spouses in the White House East Room.

Trump is the first U.S. first lady to undergo a serious medical procedure while in the White House since Nancy Reagan underwent a mastectomy in 1987, CNN reports. The outlet also reports that President Donald Trump remained at the White House during his wife’s surgery, but he’s expected to visit the hospital “shortly.”

Robin Roberts Tells Omarosa Manigault Newton 'Bye, Felicia' on Good Morning America


Yesterday, it was announced that former Apprentice contestant Omarosa Manigault Newman had resigned her role in the Trump administration, effective January 20, 2018—according to a statement from press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders. But this being the Trump administration, nothing is quite that simple. Reports started to emerge that Manigault Newman had been physically removed from the premises because she attempted to enter the residence after she was fired by chief of staff John Kelly.

This morning, she talked to Good Morning America to (kind of) tell her side of the story. In a (pre-taped) sit-down with Michael Strahan, Manigault Newman insisted that she was not fired but indeed did resign to John Kelly during a meeting in the situation room, not the residence. As she explained, “John Kelly and I had a very straightforward discussion about concerns that I had, issues that I raised and, as a result, I resigned.” She went on to say that there “were a lot of things that I observed during the last year that I was very unhappy with” but did not expand further when pressed by Strahan.

Another detail that complicates the story further is a series of tweets from the Secret Service that state that they had nothing to do with escorting her out of the White House but that they had deactivated her access, which Strahan points out seems strange if she’s still working until January.

Honestly, it’s really hard to discern who is telling the truth with most news coming out of the White House, but Omarosa Manigault Newman did tell Strahan that she has a “profound” story to tell once she is no longer part of the administration and that many things made her “uncomfortable.”

This did not sit well with Robin Roberts as they cut back to her at the GMA desk, prompting the response, “She says she has a story to tell, and I’m sure she’ll be selling that story. Bye, Felicia.”

Twitter, naturally, could not get enough of Roberts’ diss.
