Best Music December 2018

The Grammys aren’t the only exciting thing happening in music this winter. The good vibes—and great jams—start in December, with new releases from Avril Lavigne, Zayn, and (hopefully) Ariana Grande. (She says her Thank U, Next album is dropping by the end of the year. Fingers crossed!) January sees even more releases from artists like Meghan Trainor, the Backstreet Boys, and Maggie Rogers. And get this: Two major pop stars, Britney Spears and Lady Gaga, will have Las Vegas residencies at the same time—at the same venue. I can already picture the stan wars (which aren’t necessary, by the way—it’s possible to love and appreciate both artists).

Here are 10 things happening in music between now and March to keep your literal ears peeled for:

9 TV Shows and Movies to Watch the Week of December 9, 2018

The holiday season rolls on this week with a slew of new, fun Christmas movies and TV shows from Hallmark, Lifetime, and Freeform. If you’re looking for something with a little more bite, though, the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina winter special should do the trick. And if all else fails, you should watch Mean Girls. Read on, below, to find out why.

A Christmas in Tennessee: Read the full synopsis, below. 8 P.M. ET on Lifetime

“Allison Bennet (Rachel Boston), along with her daughter Olivia and mother Martha (Patricia Richardson), run a bakery in the small mountain town of White Pines, Tennessee. When Matthew (Andrew Walker), a charming real estate developer, tries to buy the town for a corporate ski resort, Allison and the townspeople must work together to prevent that from happening. And just when the Bennet ladies seem out of luck, an unexpected visitor—with a well-known sweet tooth for cookies and milk—comes to the bakery and may in fact be the key to solving everything.”

Pentatonix: A Not So Silent Night: If you’re into a cappella, consider checking out this special featuring Pentatonix riffing on your favorite Christmas songs. 10 P.M. ET on Christmas

No Sleep ‘Til Christmas: A woman with insomnia finds she can only get a good night’s sleep when she’s literally lying next to a hunky dude who’s not her fiancé. 9 P.M. ET on Freeform

[embedded content]

Mean Girls: “Thank U, Next” caused Amazon streaming on this oldie-but-goodie to rise 33 percent. Get in on the action. Streaming on Amazon

Deck the Halls: Arriving on Hulu December 12 is this often-forgotten Christmas movie starring Danny DeVito, Kristen Davis, and Matthew Broderick about dueling but festive neighbors. Streaming on Hulu

[embedded content]

The Carbonaro Effect: Who doesn’t love magic? This show, in which an IRL magician pranks every day people, will actually spellbind you (if you’re not a total cynic, that is). 10 P.M. ET on truTV

[embedded content]

Roma: An early favorite for awards season, this drama from acclaimed director Alfonso Cuarón chronicles one year of a middle-class family’s struggles in Mexico City in the 1970s. Streaming on Netflix

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: A Midwinter’s Tale: Sabrina is back in between seasons to celebrate the holidays with creepy live dummies, demon girls standing in the corner, and seances with the Weird sisters. I’m sold. Streaming on Netflix

[embedded content]

Entertaining Christmas: Read the full synopsis, below: 8 P.M. ET on Hallmark

“Claire is a cookbook author, crafting expert, and television personality whose name is synonymous with perfection. As she contemplates retirement, her daughter Kara (Jodie Sweetin) is poised to become the new face of the Livingston brand. The only trouble is, Kara can’t cook. Or sew. Or do any of the signature things her mother is known for. When a young girl posts a video online requesting Claire’s help to welcome her deployed father home for Christmas, Kara is sent in her place in an effort to prove herself a worthy successor to the board of directors and win the job. As Kara does her best to make a good impression, she gets more than she bargained for when the young girl’s Uncle Joe turns out to be a reporter for the local paper, looking for his next story.”

9 TV Shows and Movies to Watch the Week of December 2, 2018

December is officially here, which means the holiday-tinged TV shows and movies are about to drop in droves. If that’s not your cup of tea, though, no worries: There are still plenty of other non-festive things happening in entertainment this week to keep you sane. Below, all the holiday (and non-holiday) premieres to keep an eye out for:

Killing Eve: Sandra Oh stars in this hit BBC America series, about a detective who believes the person behind a string of grisly murders is a woman, not a man. Now streaming on Hulu

Life-Size 2: This highly-anticipated sequel brings back Tyra Banks as Eve, a beloved doll who comes alive. This time, though, she’s helping out Francia Raisa. 9 P.M. ET on Freeform

[embedded content]

The Cher Show: If you’ll be in New York City during the holiday season, consider checking out The Cher Show, a brand-new Broadway musical all about the pop icon. The show is so big and so fabulous that it takes three (yes, three) women to play the role of Cher. Her journey from childhood to icon status is compelling and includes 35 of her smash hits. Buy tickets here.

Vanderpump Rules: Watch your first look at season seven, below: 9 P.M. ET on Bravo

[embedded content]

Legends of the Lost With Megan Fox: Megan Fox charts the globe and uncovers ancient mysteries in this new travel series. Yup, this is real. And I’m already hooked. 8 P.M. ET on Travel

[embedded content]

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel: Season two of this critical darling, starring Rachel Brosnahan, is back and better than ever. Read our profile on Rachel before tuning in. Streaming on Amazon Prime

[embedded content]

The Great American Baking Show: Because what’s more soothing than watching other people stress about whisking butter? 9 P.M. ET on ABC

Vox Lux: A once-beloved pop star (Natalie Portman) stages a comeback after a scandal derails her career in this gritty indie drama, which is one-part pop fiction and many parts social commentary. In theaters

Dumplin: Jennifer Aniston plays a former beauty queen whose plus-size daughter enters a pageant in this touching new comedy, based on the best-selling novel by Julie Murphy. Streaming on Netflix

Homegrown Christmas: Read the full synopsis, below: 8 P.M. ET on Hallmark

Devastating news: Netflix is taking all the Air Bud movies off streaming in December. I know, right? It’s hard to picture a world in which you can’t watch Air Bud: Spikes Back whenever you want, but, alas, it’s happening. These are dark times, my friends.

Love Horoscope for December 2017

  • <img src=”https://media.glamour.com/photos/59517287afc74d3c36b68235/master/pass/Sagittarius.jpeg” alt=”SAGITTARIUS
    November 22–December 21″/>

    SAGITTARIUS
    November 22–December 21

The Full Moon in your relationship house on the 3rd is likely to bring you some confusing but important revelations. Instead of jumping to conclusions, be interested in what’s really happening. Ask questions, and don’t interrupt when the other person is talking—no matter how tempted you are. If you’re seeking close and loving relationships, it’s time to do more listening, Sagittarius. You don’t have to be perfect to be the best version of yourself.

    December 22–January 19″/>

    CAPRICORN
    December 22–January 19

All the love that you share with others comes from your own self-love. If you can’t tolerate sitting in your own skin, it’s going to be painful to let someone truly see you and love on what they see. In the last few weeks of December, Saturn, the Sun, and Venus will all land in your sign; this will either be really comforting for you or it’ll kick up your rigidity and feelings of insecurity. You can’t control how you feel, but you can control how you act in response to your feelings. In the words of Joan Didion, “The willingness to accept responsibility for one’s own life is the source from which self-respect springs.” Start with that, my love.

    AQUARIUS
    January 20–February 19

You have a lot going on beneath the surface this month, and that isn’t necessarily good or bad, but it is lowkey exhausting. Don’t make it worse for yourself by checking out, Aquarius, because your feels will be waiting for you when you resurface. Deal head-on with your emotions so that you can rid yourself of resentments and other destructive distractions and create actual solutions. The best way to move into your future is to make your present a better reflection of who you are and what you care about. Close out 2017 by investigating where you’re doing that, and where you’ve gotten off track.

    PISCES
    Feb. 19-March 20

You’re entitled to take a step back from people when you need to—just make sure that you don’t ghost on them, Pisces. This month is an excellent time for miscommunications to flourish if you aren’t careful, so be as succinct as possible when expressing your needs. You’re likely to want to stay in bed on the 3rd for the Full Moon, and you should do what you feel is right. Then, there’s going to be a meaningful shift in your friendship circle as of the 20th. Confront the very real differences between you and others and then fully and consciously show up for whatever comes next.

  • <img src=”https://media.glamour.com/photos/595172832d24bd0ad026a560/master/pass/ARIES_LADYGAGA.jpg” alt=”ARIES
    March 21-April 19″/>

    ARIES
    March 21-April 19

Part of growing is being able to know when you’ve gotten off track or backslid on your goals. If you’ve let communication lag with your personal relationships, the Full Moon on the 3rd is going to mess things up for you. Here’s a pro tip to help you help yourself: Don’t take your anxieties at face value. How you feel is a messy mixture of the experiences in your past, your hopes for the future, and all that you’ve got going on right now. Slow down and make sense of what’s real and what’s a habitual reaction, Aries.

    Victoria Hayden

  • <img src=”https://media.glamour.com/photos/595172878748de576dda4bd2/master/pass/Taurus.jpeg” alt=”TAURUS
    April 20-May 20″/>

    TAURUS
    April 20-May 20

If your relationships don’t reflect what you truly value, you can expect a whole lotta drama this month, Taurus. Not everything is worth reacting to, but if you’re not forthcoming about what’s happening in your heart, you run the risk of developing some heavy resentments. On the 9th, aggressive Mars enters your relationship house, and that can make for some exciting movement…or some annoying fights. TBH, one isn’t implicitly better than the other, Fight for the relationships that you can be yourself in, and engage in passing pleasures only if you can do so without attachments, my love.

    GEMINI
    May 21-June 21

The heart isn’t a rational muscle, and you shouldn’t try to make it one. The Full Moon in your sign on the 3rd is going to bring the fullness of your feels to the surface, but it’s unlikely to make a lot of sense right away. Let yourself be in your experience without trying to fix or figure it out, Twin Star. By the 17th, things will feel more settled and even make more sense. Above all else, don’t overextend yourself by making promises that you can’t keep this month. Expect delays (and other manageable annoyances) that make you want to skip the parties and handle your business.

    Victoria Hayden

  • <img src=”https://media.glamour.com/photos/59517284afc74d3c36b6822e/master/pass/CANCER_SELENAGOMEZ.jpg” alt=”CANCER
    June 22-July 22″/>

    CANCER
    June 22-July 22

This is likely to be an extra emo month for you, Moonchild. The Full Moon on the 3rd may bring up some old feels that you thought you were done feeling. Don’t take your reactions at face value, and follow the three R’s of Mercury Retrograde: Review, reflect, and realign. From the 20th onward is a great time to connect with your fam, but it’s not likely to be all light and easy. Relationships mirror your past actions and true self back to you. If you don’t want to maintain broken dynamics, then address them. The way to make things truly different is by starting with your own willingness to participate, my love.

    Victoria Hayden

  • <img src=”https://media.glamour.com/photos/59517285fec052179154e962/master/pass/LEO_GINARODRIGUEZ.jpg” alt=”LEO
    July 23-August 22″/>

    LEO
    July 23-August 22

It’s not always possible to have it all at the same time, but that doesn’t mean you won’t get there. Have patience with your own progress, Leo. It’s tempting to arrange your life in a way that gives you reinforcement and praise, but it’s not always wise. Close out 2017 by prioritizing the people and situations that give you the purest joy and growth, even if they’re more work. If you seek a greater balance between meaning and the mundane, you’ll get a boost by the middle of the month. If you find your reality to be a bummer, it’s time to change things up, sweet one.

    Victoria Hayden

  • <img src=”https://media.glamour.com/photos/595172888748de576dda4bd4/master/pass/VIRGO_BEYONCE.jpg” alt=”VIRGO
    August 23-September 22″/>

    VIRGO
    August 23-September 22

Being a heady person ain’t bad, but it’s got its downsides, too. Make sure that you aren’t distancing yourself from your feels by trying to think them into submission. This month’s Mercury Retrograde is meant to reconnect you with your inner world, so rise to the challenge, Virgo. It’s not possible to have true intimacy with others if you can’t tolerate your own complexities. Get to know yourself as you are, instead of how you think you are. Practice being receptive instead of pushing for answers, and give yourself the grace of stumbling now and again as you do.

    Victoria Hayden

  • <img src=”https://media.glamour.com/photos/59517286afc74d3c36b68232/master/pass/LIBRA_BELLAHADID.jpg” alt=”LIBRA
    September 23-October 22″/>

    LIBRA
    September 23-October 22

Your personal life is the foundation upon which you build all of your accomplishments. If you don’t have a stable source of support and a life that is true to who you are, no external validations will be enough to make you feel successful. This month, Saturn moves to the bottom of your chart, demanding that you tend to your foundations. Because of the holiday season, that may look like family or relationship issues, but don’t get it twisted: It’s all about how you show up. Don’t let fear of being overwhelmed with your own feelings stop you from confronting reality, Libra.

    Victoria Hayden

  • <img src=”https://media.glamour.com/photos/595172872240092a8bdc8886/master/pass/SCORPIO_ASHLEYGRAHAM.jpg” alt=”SCORPIO
    October 23-November 11″/>

    SCORPIO
    October 23-November 11

Don’t be a bully! The planet of fighting and fornicating, Mars, enters your sign on the 9th through January 2nd, and this can go either way for your love life, Scorpio. Strive to make things happen without forcing anything. You may find yourself extra agitated or hella twirly, and in either case, my advice is the same: Don’t confuse a lasting emotion with a passing fad. Your habit of obsessing is likely to be kicked up a notch at this time, but temper your actions with care, no matter how pressing your impulses are. Wade through your desires instead of diving into them until the 20th, when you’ll be more grounded, my love.
