Taylor Swift Says She Hid the Title of Her New Album in Her 'ME!' Video

Taylor Swift drowned the Internet in a wave of butterflies and rainbows when she dropped her new video for”ME!,” featuring Brendon Urie of Panic! At The Disco. The second it dropped, fans started analyzing every frame for potential clues about her upcoming music, and Swift just added fuel to the fire: She shared on Twitter that the video is actually hiding the name of her seventh album.

“So… the new album title is actually revealed somewhere in the video AND so is the title of the second single, but I haven’t seen people finding them yet…,” she wrote on Friday just hours after “ME!” dropped online. Swifties almost immediately started putting forth their theories, but she hasn’t confirmed any of them yet.

Lots of people have latched onto the word “Lover,” which appears in neon letters in the background of one scene. Some think the clue is too easy to be the album title and have instead hypothesized that “Lover” is the name of her next single. Others really dived into detective work and found a pair of teeny-tiny white letters at the bottom of a different scene; super-tight zooming suggests that they spell out the phrase “pattern design.”

“Taylor really had me working all my ocular muscles and almost ruining my retinas just so i can read ‘pattern design” im tired,’ one fan joked on Twitter.

But quite a few of the Swifities seem to think that the album name has more to do with the video’s over-the-top, Lisa Frank-esque swirl of colors, which sometimes look like they’re blending together kaleidoscope-style. There’s a part in the video where the lens turns into a heart-shaped kaleidoscope, and extra-diligent fans noted that the word “kaleidoscope” is also a term for a pack of butterflies (the more you know). Swift has been leaning on the butterfly theme pretty heavily, too: They’re all over this video, and she posed in front of a butterfly mural just before the song came out.

Everyone will have to wait to see if they were right, but there is one theory that Swift did confirm: Many believed that the video was a chance for her to introduce a new addition to her family. In one scene, Urie hands her a kitten.

Swift went on Instagram Friday and shared that she actually did get a new cat. “And then there were three…” she captioned a photo. This, at least, is proof that the theories Swifties come up with are sometimes exactly right.

Taylor Swift Just Confirmed One Big Theory From Her 'ME!' Video

Good morning! Have you heard that Taylor Swift dropped a new single called “ME!” along with a super colorful music video at midnight? Or are you just logging on for the first time today? Well, she did—and the new track is an upbeat, peppy collaboration with Brendon Urie of Panic! At the Disco.

Of course, the Swifties immediately dove into the details of the lyrics and the video to search for the hidden Easter eggs and nods the singer is famous for. Lucky for them, there are so many to obsess over. For example, fans think she might have hinted at an engagement to her boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, as well as a return to her country roots.

But it seems she’s already confirmed at least one theory—and, true to Swift’s brand, it involves cats.

Let’s back up: Swift’s famous cats, Meredith Grey and Olivia Benson, make an adorable appearance in the video:

But later in the video, Urie hands a kitten to Swift. The new cat’s appearance had fans wondering if Swift had added a new member to her family, considering she also mentioned in a YouTube Q&A before the video’s release that there was a secret in it that she’s been hiding for months.

This morning, April 26, the singer revealed that another cat has joined Meredith and Olivia. “And then there were three…,” she wrote on Instagram.

No word yet on the new pet’s name—but given Swift’s history, it should give us some insight into what television show she’s into at the moment. Maybe Cristina Yang can join her Grey’s Anatomy bestie Meredith? Swift did hang out with Sandra Oh this week, after all.

Taylor Swift Planted So Many Easter Eggs in Her 'ME!' Video

Taylor Swift dropped her new single, “ME!,” at midnight on Friday, and it’s simultaneously exactly what fans expected and nothing at all. The song is large, colorful, and fun—the polar opposite of her last lead single, “Look What You Made Me Do.” And the same thing can be said for the music video, which dropped alongside the song.

It’s quite literally an explosion of glitter, rainbows, and happiness. At one point, Swift’s dancing in the street with dozens of women in matching pastel suits. Later, she’s doing choreography with Brendon Urie (who’s featured on “ME!”) outside an Oz-like utopia. Butterflies, unicorns, and hearts are literally everywhere. Swift’s cats even make an appearance. The video is joyous, simply put, and heavily-inspired by Lisa Frank, as far as I’m concerned.

With so much sensory overload, though, you may have missed a few Easter eggs Swift planted in the video. The pop singer is famous for injecting hidden meanings and “clues” into her work, and this video is chock-full of them. Below, check out all the ones fans are currently buzzing about.

Toward the end of the clip, Swift is wearing cowboy boots as she dances with Urie. This could potentially be hinting at a return to her country roots with #TS7.

There’s a photo of the iconic girl group on the wall at the beginning of the video. Even more evidence Country Taylor is coming. Fingers crossed for a collab.

This word is written in large, neon letters and planted in the middle of the video. So obviously we’re getting a song called “Lover.” Or maybe that’s the album title.

Olivia and Meredith co-starred with their mom!

Swift said in her YouTube Q&A there’s a secret in her video she’s been keeping for months. Could this new cat be what (or who) she was hiding?

Swift infamously said, “I’m sorry, the Old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now. Why? Oh, ’cause she’s dead” in “Look What You Made Me Do.” But on “ME!” she doesn’t have the same hang-up (pun intended).

A not-so-subtle nod to this being her seventh studio album.

She turns into a bunch of butterflies at the top of the video. The old aesthetic is gone, and a new one is here.

Swift shouts this during the song’s bridge. Fun fact: Swift actually competed in spelling bees as a child.

It’s April. Why is there a Christmas tree in Swift’s video? Maybe it’s a reference to the fact she grew up on a Christmas tree farm.

Let’s get to the good stuff. When the shot of Urie and Swift in marching band outfits goes wide toward the end of the video, we see they’re outside a dreamlike, hybrid city of London and the United States. Specifically, we see the Capitol Building and Parliament, a.k.a where laws are made in both countries. Perhaps this is hinting that Swift and her British boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, will be merging their lives soon.

So maybe this is her way of denouncing all the rumors she and Alwyn are headed for an engagement.

You’ve done it again, Taylor Swift. Now I’ll be obsessively analyzing this video for the next three days.
