Scientists May Have Discovered Superbug Antibiotic

A new superbug antibiotic is in the works thanks to scientific advances. Teixobactin is a new antibiotic discovered by medical research scientists in London, and it appears to have the ability to destroy serious infections which have become resistant to all of the current antibiotics available. The superbug antibiotic is not ready to be used on people yet, this could take another year or two, but the discovery shows great promise. Millions of people around the world become infected with one of the superbugs, and these germs do not respond to the antibiotics that are currently used. MRSA and tuberculosis are both becoming more resistant and that leaves physicians with few options when someone develops a serious infection from these germs. The superbug antibiotic Teixobactin has been patented by NovoBiotic Pharmaceuticals.

Science has been working on superbug antibiotics, trying to design a new class of these drugs which will work against resistant strains of bacteria. Until now there have been few promising developments. NovoBiotic Pharmaceuticals co-founder and Northeastern University professor Kim Lewis explained “The discovery of this novel compound challenges long-held scientific beliefs and holds great promise for treating an array of menacing infections.” Many bacteria have developed a resistance to multiple drugs and drug classes, leaving physicians few or no options to fall back on. According to WHO a post-antibiotic era where even routine healthcare and surgical procedures will pose a big threat of superbug infection, could occur during this century if new superbug antibiotics are not quickly developed.

Paris Terror Attack Praised by Islamic State Fighter

The Paris terrorist attack yesterday at the Charlie Hebdo office has been praised by an Islamic State fighter, even though the rest of the world has condemned the attacks and spoken out against the violence that has been perpetrated in the name of Islam by extremist radicals. According to Islamic State fighter Abu Mussab, a native of Syria who fights for the Islamic State group, “The lions of Islam have avenged our Prophet. These are our lions. It’s the first drops – more will follow. Let these crusaders be scared because they should be.” So far no radical group has claimed responsibility for the Paris terror attack although the gunmen have been identified as French nationals and one of the three has surrendered to police.

The Islamic State fighter praising the Paris terror attack on social media has seen numerous Twitter responses, with a number of militant sympathizers expressing satisfaction over the attack. One Twitter reply read “Oh dog of the Romans in France, by God, by God, by God, we will not stop at targeting Charlie Hebdo magazine. What is coming is worse.” Another stated “The word of Allahu Akbar (God is Greatest) shakes Paris”.A third reply simply said “Bravo lone wolves.:” Jamal Khashoggi, a prominent journalist in Saudi Arabia, wrote “Charlie Hebdo is a satirical journal, nothing is sacred to it. It was abusive to Jesus Christ and the symbols of all religions and we as Muslims reject that – but to them this is freedom of expression.”

One of the people suspected of being a Paris terror suspect is in police custody after surrendering when police started looking for those responsible for the Charlie Hebdo massacre Wednesday, And French law enforcement are still looking for the other 2 gunmen who are also brothers. There is an enormous manhunt underway in France, especially in Paris, while police search for the remaining suspects and the entire world is speaking out and mourning those killed in the attack. 18 year old Hamyd Mourad surrendered to the police once he was identified as one of the terrorists. The other two gunmen are believed to be brothers who were born and raised in Paris, leading to the belief that the Charlie Hebdo massacre was carried out by homegrown extremists.

With one Paris terror suspect in police custody the search for 34 year old Said Kouachi and 32 year old Cherif Kouachi continues. The brothers have ties to extremists and it is believed that the Charlie Hebdo massacre was revenge for the satirical cartoons featuring the prophet Mohammad that the newspaper has run. Muslims have been upset in the past by these cartoons and there have been previous threats made against the newspaper and staff. The gunmen were able to enter the newspaper offices by threatening a young staff member and her daughter returning to the office so that the woman would key in the entry code. With everyone looking for the Kouachi brothers it is doubtful that they will be on the run for long, and eventually they will have to answer for the crimes that they committed.

A fatal shooting in White Springs, Florida has led to child abuse charges against the parents of the siblings involved. The 15 year old girl who is not being named shot her 16 year old brother and called him after she says he beat her and locked her in her room. When police investigated the home the 15 year old girl’s bedroom only contained a bucket in the closet for bathroom purposes and a blanket. After the parents were contacted they admitted that they often locked the girl up, for as long as 20 days at a time. The teens father was a truck driver and their mother often went along on trips, leaving the 16 year old boy in charge of his 15 year old sibling as well as two other female siblings who were 11 and 3 years old at the time.

The fatal shooting in Florida occurred after the 16 year old beat the 15 year old girl and then locked her in the bedroom. Police say the girl has been abused for years, and she finally had enough. The 15 year old convinced the 11 year old to unlock the door, and she then went through her parent’s bedroom window in order to get to the gun because their door was locked. The 16 year old was sleeping in the living room when he was fatally shot. Both older sisters are in a juvenile facility and the 3 year old was taken into protective custody by the state. The parents admit that the 15 year old was very disturbed, saying she had attempted suicide several times and been molested by an uncle who was convicted in 2010. In 2011 the parents found the siblings having sex. In spite of this the police and protective workers were never called by the parents who are now being charged with child abuse.

The Hunt for French Nationals After Paris Attack By Terrorists

hunt for French nationals, Paris attack by terrorists

The hunt for French nationals, including 2 brothers, is on after the recent Paris attack by terrorists at the Charlie Hebdo newspaper. The French nationals are suspected in taking part in the murder of 12 people after the newspaper offices were stormed by hooded gunmen who were shooting Islamic slogans while they fired on the innocent newspaper staff. One of the brothers that the police are looking for has had previous charges which were terrorism related. Those who survived the attack said that the gunmen spoke flawless French, and that none of them had an accent when they spoke. This was a clue that the gunmen were French natives and not foreign extremists. Tens of thousands of people across France joined rallies to commemorate the victims of the terrorist attack, and leaders from around the globe have sent condolences and spoke out against the act of violence.

With the hunt for French nationals after the Paris attack by terrorists the suspects may soon realize that they have nowhere to turn. Once they have been identified the attackers will be sought out no matter where they run to, and they will eventually be captured and brought to trial for their cowardly and despicable act of terrorism. The Charlie Hebdo was no stranger to controversy, and the newspaper had a habit of poking fun at every religion and political leaders. Past threats showed that Muslims and even radicals were upset when the newspaper ran cartoons that made fun of the prophet Mohammed, and some Muslims advocated retaliation. Most Muslims have taken a stance against the attack though, and state that Islam is not a violent religion.

Al-Azhar and Arab League Condemn Paris Terrorist Attack

Both Al-Azhar and the Arab League have condemned the Paris terrorist attack that occurred Wednesday in France. According to the Arab League “Arab League chief Nabil al-Arabi strongly condemns the terrorist attack on Charlie Hebdo newspaper in Paris.” Al-Azhar also spoke out against the attack, saying it was a criminal attack and that Islam denounces any violence. Another statement from Abbas Shoman, a senior official with Al-Azhar, said “ the institution does not approve of using violence even if it was in response to an offense committed against sacred Muslim sentiments”. In the past the newspaper whose offices were attacked had published cartoons and pieces of satire that featured the prophet Mohammed, and this angered Muslims and caused radicals to issue threats against Charlie Hebdo.

The Paris terrorist attack was the result of extremists, but Muslims around the world are worried that they could feel a backlash. This may be why the Arab League and Al-Azhar were quick to speak out against the violent act and to show that most Muslims do not condone this type of attack against innocent people. Many Muslims are peaceful individuals who love others and who work hard to better their communities, so holding everyone in the Muslim faith responsible for the actions of a few radicalized extremists would be just as wrong as the Paris terrorist attack itself. Tolerance is the key, and accepting that other s have a right to their thoughts even if we do not always agree with these thoughts. Violence in the name of any deity is wrong and just causes further violence instead of bringing peace.
