Michelle Branch Shared a Sweet Photo of Herself Breastfeeding Her Son at Her Wedding

Over the weekend, singer Michelle Branch married the Black Keys’s Patrick Carney in New Orleans. (Fun fact: The couple chose the same venue, the Marigny Opera House, Solange Knowles used for her wedding to Alan Ferguson.)

But more than her nuptials, it’s a photo of Branch breastfeeding her and Carney’s son, Rhys, while wearing her gorgeous Temperley London wedding dress and lace veil that has people talking.

On Wednesday, April 24, the singer shared the photo (by photographer Katch Silva) on her Instagram with the caption, “A baby has to eat when a baby has to eat.”

It’s a sweet moment between a mother and her son (who was born last August)—and will hopefully help continue to de-stigmatize breastfeeding, in general. The comments section was quickly flooded with well-wishers. “And THIS is why women are amazing!! You’re a queen!” one wrote. “This is the best – I remember nursing my oldest daughter on my wedding day in my dress and being so worried about her spitting up on it. Congratulations!” said another. Of course, this is the Internet, so there were a few comments questioning whether or not there was alcohol in Branch’s glass. But luckily, those were few and far between.

And Branch isn’t alone with her baby’s mid-wedding feeding. In 2016, a Canadian bride went viral for breastfeeding her little girl in the middle of her wedding ceremony. That same year, another bride similarly shared a wedding photo of herself breastfeeding her little one. “It’s one of my favorite pictures from that day,” she wrote on Facebook. Looks like these brides can agree with Branch’s sentiment: “A baby has to eat when a baby has to eat.”

Congratulations to Branch and her family—and here’s to more women being unafraid to share their breastfeeding photos with the world.
