Meghan Markle Wore a Denim Carolina Herrera Dress to Her Latest Royal Engagement

When Meghan Markle made her first public appearance with Prince Harry in 2017, at the Invictus Games in Toronto, she wore what would become one of her most talked-about outfits: a white button-down, prophetically called “The Husband” by its designer, and distressed jeans. Ripped denim may now be a no-go for the duchess, but it looks as though Markle has since found a way to work the fabric into her royal wardrobe.

The Duchess of Sussex made an appearance at the 2018 Sentebale Polo match, a charity event organized by her husband, the Duke of Sussex, on Thursday. For the occasion she opted for a denim midi dress with a V-neck and a wide belt from Carolina Herrera’s Resort 2019 collection, designed by Wes Gordon. She completed the summery outfit with a pair of Aquazzura heels, Tom Ford sunglasses, and a straw J.Crew clutch.

The belted denim dress is a casual departure from the pastel hues and bateau sheaths she has taken to wearing since taking on the title of duchess. But Gordon’s Carolina Herrera is a familiar part of Markle’s growing royal wardrobe: She wore a bespoke look from the New York label to the Queen’s Trooping the Color celebration in June.

Carolina Herrera denim is a few steps above her beloved ripped-at-the-knees skinnies, but some parts of Markle’s polo look are a bit more attainable for fans of her style: Her J.Crew clutch is still available on J.Crew’s website—but if it’s anything like the other affordable wares she’s picked out as a royal, it’ll go fast.

So what have we learned from today’s royal outfit? One, duchesses still love some denim. And two: Meghan Markle makes walking on grass in heels look devastatingly easy.
