'Cream Soda' Is the Transitional Blond Shade You'll See Everywhere This Fall

This summer was undoubtedly the season of platinum hair: Every time we opened Instagram, it seemed like a new celebrity had gone icy blond. Alas, fall is just around the corner—and even though platinum hair isn’t going anywhere, a few celebrities have debuted a less dramatic, more neutral shade of blond that transitions really well into the colder months. Behold, “cream soda blond.”

Elisabeth Moss‘s hairstylist Sunnie Brook used the term for the shade in an interview with Refinery29, and we can see why it’s called that: The color is a cooler take on a golden blond that falls between platinum’s frosty edge and the buttery blond that also popped up quite a bit this summer (remember Emma Stone’s new look from June?).

We’re starting to see takes on the shade crop up across the celeb and modeling world. See below for a few recent—and gorgeous—examples:

If you did go super-light this summer and feel like switching it up, it’s the perfect way to add some warmth and richness to your hair just in time for fall. The color’s also great for blending in darker roots with a lighter dye job—which means that A) time between appointments can be eked out a bit longer, and B) if you’re a blond wanting to go dark but not totally commit to it, this is an awesome way to test the waters. And, brunettes, it’s friendly for you, too: It’s a great way to lighten up without going full-on blond.
