Lili Reinhart Shuts Down Pregnancy Rumors: 'My Body Is Something I Will Never Apologize For'

Lili Reinhart‘s had to deal with inquiries about her personal life for quite some time now. Ever since rumors erupted last summer that she’s dating her Riverdale co-star Cole Sprouse, Reinhart’s been living her life in a metaphorical fishbowl of sorts. Still, the actress has frequently shut down the idea that fans are entitled to information about her personal life. “It’s horrifying how invested some people are in my love life. Emphasis on ‘my.’ It is mine. It is private,” she wrote on Tumblr back in October.

Now, she’s addressing a different—and more offensive—type of scrutiny. Over the weekend, a photo surfaced of Reinhart that led many fans to think she’s pregnant. Below, just a few of the tweets from her followers:

Something similar happened to Today host Savannah Guthrie last week, when people online started debating her body and wondering whether or not she’s expecting. It’s a phenomenon that predominantly happens to female celebrities—and it’s not OK. Reinhart took to Instagram Stories on Monday (May 28) to say just that—and to confirm that, no, she isn’t pregnant.

“It’s unfortunate that one unflattering photo of my stomach circulating the Internet causes hundreds of people to think that I’m pregnant,” she wrote. “Nope. Not pregnant. This is just my body. And sometimes I’m bloated. Sometimes an unflattering photo is taken of me. Sometimes I go through periods of time where I gain weight.”

Reinhart continued, “My body is something that I will NEVER apologize for. My body will constantly go through change. And so will yours. And that’s fine. So let’s not much so much time and effort into caring about a stranger’s figure.”

Reinhart’s series of posts inspired her co-star Camila Mendes to open up on Instagram about her own body struggles. “I feel bloated 24/7. My weight fluctuates constantly, it comes with being a woman and should be celebrated, not criticized,” Mendes wrote. “I used to fear the day that people would start publicly criticizing my body and commenting on my weight. I’ve suffered too much from my own self-criticism, and wasn’t sure that I could handle it from others. But seeing somebody as beautiful as Lili respond to public scrutiny by preaching and practicing self-love is all it takes for me to overcome that fear. Proud to call her my friend. Let’s continue inspiring women to love their bodies.

Well said. These Twitter users’ time would be better spent catching up on the bonkers second season of Riverdale.
