Here's the Zodiac Love Advice Your Sign Needs in 2018

Jessica Lanyadoo is Glamour’s resident astrologer, writing your monthly love horoscope. You can find her other readings and more writing on on Twitter, Facebook, or her site.

Strap yourself, dear readers, because 2018 is going to be quite a ride. Saturn has moved into its native sign of Capricorn for the first time in 29 years, and it’s time to reap what you’ve sown. This year will confront us with consequences, and that can be pretty daunting. This energy is going to ask you to work for what you want, and there is no easy way out. It’s time to choose what’s most authentic and to not evade the truth.

What you do really matters, so don’t skip steps or phone it in. Saturn is kind of a killjoy, but it’s not for nothing. This is the planet of maturity and time, so make sure that you’re committing yours to what you really want. If you need to work on intimacy issues, you can get it done, but nothing comes for free. Find your way out of ambiguities, and seek practical insights so you can see the steps forward and do the work that you need to do to get there.

This year is a time when we, as both individuals and a society, are being confronted by what we value and what we’re willing to do about it. In May, revolutionary Uranus enters security-minded Taurus for the first time since its seven-year stint beginning in 1935, and it will stay there until 2026. Expect to see some major shifts in the world with regards to women’s rights, finance, and what we as a society agree is worth valuing.

On a more personal level, this is a time when your sense of security is likely to be challenged. Don’t just hold onto what you believe is safe: Security can become a rut when it’s not rooted in your best interests. This is a time where you can revolutionize how you love and who you share yourself with. Instability is an inevitable part of progress, so don’t fear it, even when it’s unpleasant. Be an active participant of change this year, even if you don’t know exactly where it’s taking you.

Love is an action. Show it, don’t talk about it. Let it motivate your choices, fill you up when you’re feeling down, and inspire you to love yourself and the people who deserve your brilliance, kittens. In the words of the 1990 Queer Nation Manifesto: “An army of lovers cannot lose.”

Here are some sign-specific zodiac love affirmations to keep you going through 2018.

ARIES
March 21-April 19
I follow the energy in my life. If there’s no movement in a relationship or dynamic, I know that I can let it go, and that something better will take its place. I connect with the big picture of how love plays out in my life without getting caught up in the little stuff.

TAURUS
April 20-May 20
I don’t let other people determine my value. I know that I’m worthy of love and care, and I align myself with people and situations that hold me up, even when it’s hard to do. I am willing to integrate opposing forces in order to come up with a better whole.

GEMINI
May 21-June 21
I know that facing the truth allows me to focus on what really matters in my relationships. I’m ready to let go of people, situations, and habits that have proven themselves to be bad for me. I love myself enough to master the challenges in my life, even when fear tells me to run away. I’ve got this.

CANCER
June 22-July 22
I allow myself to listen to my worries without attachment. Love and intimacy are meant to be a vehicle for growth: No matter how much I love someone I will not sacrifice my wellness for a relationship. I prioritize my happiness, knowing that compromise and collaboration is an essential part of it.

LEO
July 23-Aug. 22
Every ending is also an opening. I believe in the resiliency of my spirit and commit my life to something better than what I have yet known. I am a powerful person, and I will use my strength to work in service to love, wherever that takes me.

VIRGO
Aug. 23-Sept. 22
I am strong enough to explore the strength and wisdom of my vulnerability. I know that the happiness or success of another does nothing to the potential for my own best life. I uphold others and myself with equal energy, but not equal attention. I know that if I pace myself, I will get there right on time.

LIBRA
Sept. 23-Oct. 22
I know that guilt is a waste of my energies and time: By being willing to accept my part, I can move on, improved by the lesson. I don’t need to feel badly about my needs, only to determine how and when to address them. Obsessing on mistakes only keeps me stuck. Love and forgiveness are my guiding lights.

SCORPIO
Oct. 23-Nov. 21
Just because it doesn’t happen quickly doesn’t mean that it won’t happen at all. I have faith in myself, and allow my intuition to guide me. I accept that the best things in life come in stages and I am present for each delicious one.

SAGITTARIUS
Nov. 22-Dec. 21
I am willing to weigh out my ideas against my experiences to come up with the clearest picture of the truth, as it is now. I don’t confuse passing pleasures with the healing power of love. I invite joy, play, and intimacy into my life in perfect balance.

CAPRICORN
Dec. 22-Jan. 19
I understand that self-doubt is a part of life, but I never confuse it for wisdom. I am ready to prune the garden of my life so that there is room for new growth. I let go of what is no longer serving me so that I can fully embrace what helps me to be more whole.

AQUARIUS
Jan. 20-Feb. 18
I fight for what I love, but not out of hate. Tending to my emotional wellness is the foundation on which I can build healthy relationships. Intimacy requires flexibility, and I’m open to change that helps me to be more present, compassionate, and whole.

PISCES
Feb. 19-March 20
It’s through being open that I attain clarity, but I don’t have to be open to all things at all times. I use discretion to decide what I will fight for and what’s better to let go of. I don’t need to keep giving energy to stagnant dynamics; I trust in my choices.

What the Eclipse Means for Your Zodiac Sign

PHOTO: Sean Locke/Stocksy

The first eclipse to make its entire way across the U.S. since 1918 (and the first one seen in the U.S. since 1979) will be visible Monday, August 21—and it’s a big deal. Sure, it’s a major meteorological event, but it’s also spiritual for a lot of people.

Glamour‘s astrologer, Jessica Lanyadoo, runs down what the eclipse means for your zodiac sign, what solar eclipses typically symbolize, and how long its effects could last.

This eclipse seems like a big deal to members of the astrology community. What makes this kind of event special to people who do what you do?
Part of what you’re seeing is the uptick in people’s interest and understanding of astrology. Eclipses happen a couple times a year, but not all eclipses are total as this one is. It’s unusual in that it will be visible across the whole U.S. Eclipses create a shadow, and astrologers see that we, in turn, are forced to confront our own shadow. It’s intense, and people are really feeling it.

Astrologically speaking, what are Eclipses known for doing?
Eclipses are harbingers of change. This one marks a time to stand up for what you believe in and to live your life with more passion and integrity.

Could the chaotic news cycle be blamed on eclipse season? Or will it at least affect how we react to the news?
Absolutely! In my opinion, we are being confronted by our shadow. That means different things for different people, but for us as a country, it’s pretty clear: this Eclipse is asking us to investigate our shadow on the collective level. The shame of genocide, slavery, the KKK, anti-Semitism, and institutionalized racism are the shadow of the U.S.A. We as a nation cannot look away or turn our backs on what’s happened in our history or what’s happening in the here and now. My dear friend, astrologer Christopher Renstrom, says, “Solar Eclipses in Leo—especially total Eclipses—are said to presage…the downfall of a person in high office.” And to be honest, I totally hope so!

Do they affect certain signs more, or differently? If so, why?
Astrology is a bunch of math, as unsexy as that sounds. So for anyone who has the math of their chart directly aspected by the math of this Eclipse (the Moon and Sun will both be at 29 degrees of Leo), the effects will be stronger. For people who have Leo, Aquarius, Taurus, or Scorpio prominently placed in their charts, this will be an especially personal event, but no one will be untouched by this Eclipse.

Any Eclipse-specific self-care tips?
We’re all on call to confront our own shadows and bring them into the light. This is an emotional time, and the Sun in astrology is related to the will: it represents our identity and desire to do something. So here’s my tip: choose love, and align all of your actions from that place. There are really only two choices in life: fear and love. If you distill all of your thoughts and all of your actions down to their most essential form, they are the embodiment of one or the other. Fear is pervasive. It promises to make you safe and pretends to be wisdom, but it isn’t. Love is risky and radical and comes from a place of strength; it’s the very force of creation. Align yourself with that, especially when it’s hard.

When can we expect the effects of the Eclipse to wear off? Does it even work that way?
Anywhere from the next six months up to the next year and a half will be marked by the events that happen now. But here’s the beauty of astrology: We look at things as a continuum, not isolated events. So the growth or regressions of this moment are always an opportunity. We can rise or fall (that’s where your free will comes in), but it won’t happen all at once. This is a New Moon, and that represents a powerful new chapter; it’s one we’ll be exploring for a long time to come.
