Gwendoline Christie Is Serving Serious Lannister Vibes at the 2019 Emmys

If anyone is owning the 2019 Emmy Awards, it’s Gwendoline Christie. Not only did the Game of Thrones actress submit herself for an award (and score a nomination because of it), but she also showed up looking like an absolute queen—and we mean that literally.

On Sunday, Christie walked the red carpet in a look that made her look more like a Lannister than a Tarth. Her satin, long-sleeved gown came complete with a draped neck, sequin- and bead-embroidered trimmed, and two lion-head medallions.

The whole ensemble was plucked from Gucci’s Cruise 2020 collection, down to the accessories: Christie wore chandelier metal earrings with an aged gold finish, triple0wrap rings in 18-karat yellow gold, along with a five-band ring in 18-karat yellow gold, white and black diamonds, and red topaz, according to a statement from the brand.

The Lannister vibes are almost too much for fans, who have taken to social media to rave about Christie’s look.

Game of Thrones' Gwendoline Christie Put Herself Up for an Emmy Nomination—and Got It

Game of Thrones received a whopping 32 Emmy nominations for its final season—and the Internet can’t stop buzzing about one of them. Gwendoline Christie, who you know best as Brienne of Tarth, scored a nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, which isn’t much of a surprise. (I mean, her performance this season was brilliant.) What might surprise you, though, is learning that Christie submitted herself for the recognition—and got it.

Here’s why this is a big deal: Networks are generally the entities that submit actors for Emmy Awards. According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO entered Kit Harington, Emilia Clarke, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Sophie Turner, and Maisie Williams for this year’s race—but it did not put forth Christie, Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy), or Carice van Houten (Melisandre), even though all three of those performers received nominations. They secured their spots by footing the $225 entry fee and submitting themselves into the race. THR says that it’s not uncommon for actors (or their teams) to do this, but it is atypical for those entries to result in actual nominations.

Christie celebrated her Emmy nomination by posting to Instagram, “CANT BELIEVE IT!!!!!!????!?!!?!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU UNIVERSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #EmmyAwards #CANITTRULYBEREAL??????????”

Fans on Twitter are, naturally, living for this and using it as a prime example of advocating for yourself. “HBO didn’t submit Gwendoline Christie for an Emmy so she submitted herself and got a nomination. Be your own biggest cheerleader,” one person tweeted.

Check out some more reactions for yourself, below:

For those who think HBO not submitting Gwendoline Christie was some kind of slight, THR says there is no beef between the parties and that the network plans on fully backing all the nominated actors.

The 2019 Emmys will air on Sunday, September 22 at 8 P.M. ET on Fox.

'Game of Thrones' Star Gwendoline Christie Admits Tormund's Love for Brienne Continues Off Screen, Too

In a recent interview with Seth Meyers on Late Night, actress Gwendoline Christie, who plays Brienne on Game of Thrones, spilled some rather uncomfortable details about those looks she gets from Tormund. You know, the looks.

Apparently, actor Kristofer Hivju stays in full Tormund character, even after the director says cut—and yes, that includes his creepy stares. “He likes to continue being in character even off set,” Christie shared with Seth. “He will start chewing a sandwich wildly at me, start masticating wildly at me, really kind of making love to that sandwich as he eyeballs me. So it’s strong. Eyes like lasers pouring right in.” Like this, we assume:

Christie explains that she is a classically trained actress, so she rarely starts laughing during a scene, but this is the one time where she completely loses it. As she tells Seth, Tormund’s looks are “possibly the one time that I dissolve without fail.” She continued, “No one told me that this was gonna happen. In the script it simply said, ‘Tormund gives Brienne a look.’ I was not expecting the power, the magnitude, of intense sexual intention to pour out of a man’s eyes and cover me.”

Tormund’s looks may have met their end in this season’s Game of Thrones finale, so we’re eagerly awaiting to see what happens next season. (To be completely honest, though, we’re not really sure if we should be rooting for more looks or for no looks at all.)

Until then, watch Gwendoline Christie’s full interview below:
