‘P.S. I Love You,’ Your Favorite Tearjerker, Is Getting a Sequel
Grab your tissues, people, because P.S. I Love You is getting a sequel.
Variety reports that Alcon Entertainment has secured the rights to author Cecelia Ahern’s sequel to the book P.S. I Love You, titled Postscript. by . Details about the movie sequel aren’t known right now—just that it’s happening.
If you’re unfamiliar with the 2007 movie P.S. I Love You, it centers on a woman, Holly (Hilary Swank), who is stricken with grief following the death of her husband, Gerry (Gerard Butler). However, because he was diagnosed with an illness prior to passing, Gerry prepared for his wife’s grief and wrote her a series of letters that are sent to her after he dies—one a year, all ending with “P.S., I love you.”
Per Variety, Postscript picks up seven years later, when Holly agrees to tell her story on her sister’s podcast. It’s unclear if Swank and Butler will return to their roles, but here’s hoping. Either way, I’m prepared to cry.
“For me, after reading the script I was reminded of what life is about,” Swank told Indie London about what originally attracted her to P.S. I Love You. “It was a reminder that you just want to hold those ones that you love dear because you don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow. It’s such a great love story and I think that we can all relate to that—finding love and losing love…. If it’s not through death, even a breakup can sometimes feel like a death. There were many things that I could relate to and a lot of laughter in between.”
Of the movie’s more emotional scenes, Swank told Indie London, “The challenge was the emotional side of it. To really find the humour within the reality of the aftermath of what’s happened, while at the same time being honest to the full range of emotions associated with grief.”
A date hasn’t been set for the film adaptation of Postscript, nor do we know if that will be the title. We’ll keep you posted on all fronts.
