Mariska Hargitay’s Response to Chris Meloni Bringing Back Elliot Stabler Will Make Your Day

Yesterday news broke that Christopher Meloni is returning to television as Elliot Stabler in a new Law & Order spin-off. And his former costar, Mariska Hargitay, seems as happy about it as the rest of us.

She posted a sweet birthday and congratulations message to her former partner-in-solving-crime to Instagram on April 2. “Happy Birthday @chris_meloni Congratulations and welcome home Elliot Stabler #It’sBeenAWhile #MissedYou #ElliotStabler,” she wrote. And Meloni responded, “Saddle up gurl, we ridin agin. And TY for all the BD wishes.”

Christopher Meloni starred as the tough New York cop Elliot Stabler for 12 seasons before leaving Law & Order: SVU in 2011, while Mariska Hargitay has remained on the show, currently in its 21st season, as Olivia Benson. The show has remained popular in its prime time slot on NBC but can also be found in reruns on basic cable at almost any hour of the day.

While we don’’t have many details on Meloni’s new show yet, it seems from the two stars’ Instagram banter that a Benson-and-Stabler reunion is very possible. The new show sees Stabler heading up New York City’s organized crime unit. Benson, meanwhile, currently runs the special victims unit. Because both characters will now be in New York, it’s not far-fetched to think a crossover moment could happen. Ahhh!

Fans rejoiced about Meloni’s return on social media. “Elliot Stabler is back in the SVU universe. We DESERVE a reunion with Olivia Benson. SVU ship sailing again. You can’t tell me nothing, honey. #BensonandStabler,” one fan tweeted. “I cant believe it’s 2020 the world is ending and Stabler is trending bc he’s coming back to TV and it’s not SVU. Blessed. Grateful,” another wrote.

There’s no word yet on when the show will debut, but we’ll be there. Dun dun.
