Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Are Reportedly Heading to This 'Royal Retreat' on Their Honeymoon
The royal honeymoon destination plot thickens: It was just last week that royal wedding expert Omid Scobie said Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had changed the location of their honeymoon after the press got wind that the couple was reportedly heading to Namibia. Now, we have an update regarding what could very well be their final honeymoon destination. TMZ reports that the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex might actually be going to Alberta, Canada to celebrate their marriage.
“Sources” told TMZ that the newlyweds might just be planning to stay at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, in the resort’s 6,000-square-foot Outlook Cabin, also known as the “Royal Retreat.” According to the Edmonton Journal, it’s indeed pretty much a palace, with six bedrooms, two fireplaces, a large terrace, and an enclosed conservatory and veranda. (For the ultra-curious, there’s a virtual tour of the cabin here.) According to these “sources,” the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge has reportedly stocked up on “gear and goodies it doesn’t normally keep on hand” (what could this mean?!), and British and Canadian security are said to be involved to make sure everything goes off without a hitch.
TMZ points out that the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge has special significance in royal history: King George VI and the Queen Mother stayed there in 1939, and the current Queen and Prince Philip reportedly traveled there in June 2005. The resort has also welcomed celebrities like Anthony Hopkins, John Travolta, and Bill Gates.
Of course, this could be a clever way to throw us off the trail: Scobie said that if the location leaked prior to travel, the couple would be advised by their team to change plans. The royal newlyweds might have to pass on Alberta now that the news is out there, but it could also very well be a convenient distraction as they get ready for the real celebration. Early reports said that they had their hearts set on Namibia’s luxury Hoanib Valley Camp or somewhere else in Africa, where they vacationed during the early days of their relationship. Maybe that’ll still happen—but we won’t know for sure until after the honeymoon. Either way, we know it’ll be as magical as their big day.
