Peter Kraus Is Returning to 'The Bachelor'—But Not in the Way You Want
When news broke that Arie Luyendyk Jr.—and not Peter Kraus—is going to be the next Bachelor, the response was…tepid, to say the least. It’s unclear why ABC ultimately chose a contestant from years ago as opposed to one of the fan favorites from Rachel Lindsay’s season—including Kraus—but it’s happening. Rumors floated around that producers actually wanted Kraus to be the next suitor, but his unwillingness to commit to a proposal at the end did him in.
Creator Mike Fleiss added fuel to the fire when he tweeted, “Do we really want a Bachelor who isn’t ready to settle down with a woman he loves? Hmmm. Not what #thebachelor is all about.” Many people took this to be about Kraus, furthering the narrative all was not well between him and ABC.
But if this is true, it’s water under the bridge now. Fleiss took to Twitter last night to announce Kraus is, in fact, returning to the Bachelor franchise—just not in the way you think. The gap-toothed wonder is joining the inaugural cast of The Bachelor Winter Games, a spinoff series, which kicks off during the Winter Olympics.
Never heard of it? Here’s a quick synopsis: ABC describes the show as a romance competition that takes place at a luxury ski resort, where previous contestants “go head-to-head in winter-themed athletic challenges, including the toughest sport of all: love.”
“Yes, Peter will be looking for love—and going for the gold—on #TheBachelor Winter Games!!!!” Fleiss tweeted. Check it out for yourself, below:
On the one hand, this is exciting: Peter Kraus is returning to our TV screens. But on the other, WTF? Kraus needs to be the star of his own show, not just in an ensemble of random hot people snowboarding and making out. Every time he’s not on the screen, people are just going to think, “Where’s Peter? We need more Peter.” I’d literally watch him read a phonebook for an hour. That’s the spinoff we really need, ABC. But we suppose this will do—for now. It is more Hot Peter, after all.
