Cancel Valentine’s Day 2018, because love is officially dead. Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen have ended their almost decade-long romance, according to Us Weekly, marking the celebrity breakup that might finally, officially break us.
An anonymous inside source told the magazine that the couple has been heading toward the split for awhile. “She’s full-time back in LA. He’s in Toronto,” the source said. “They’ve been on the outs for a couple of months.” As if to further rip our hearts into tiny little pieces, the insider added, “They are completely, officially done.” We get it!
Bilson and Christensen, both 36, first met while filming 2008’s Jumper. They reportedly were engaged in December of that year, but called it off in August 2010, before reconciling just a few months later. Though the pair have stayed mum on the topic of their relationship, Bilson did gush over her partner in a 2013 interview with Cosmopolitan. “I’m a really good girlfriend—I always put all that first in my life. I’m definitely the person who would make him his favorite dinner to come home to,” she said. “I love to cook, so we make dinner at home a lot and watch movies.”
Later that year, she was also on the cover of Cosmopolitan UK and opened up about her relationship once again. “I’ve always been a big romantic, and I look forward to all those things. I’ve been in a relationship for six years and I’m happy,” she said. “To have a partner is one of the greatest things. I’ve always been a fan of love! I love any movie or book or anything to do with love because I’m a romantic.”
In October 2014, Bilson gave birth to their only child, daughter Briar Rose Christensen. Her name, as Christensen explained almost a year later, was inspired by one of Rachel’s favorite movies. “There’s a Disney reference there, I suppose,” Christensen told the Hallmark Channel at the time. “The original Sleeping Beauty is called Briar Rose. Rachel—we both love Disney—but Rachel especially was very keen on the name.” He also revealed that, like any good parents, he and Rachel were raising their daughter on classic Disney soundtracks. “We have Disney songs playing around the house 24/7,” he said. Now, this date will always be known as the day the (Disney) music died.
