Jennifer Lawrence Says Hurricanes Harvey And Irma Show 'Mother Nature's Wrath'

What’s going on with the intense weather systems pummeling the U.S.? Jennifer Lawrence has a theory. According to the actress, hurricanes like Harvey and Irma are the products of Mother Nature’s fury.

While promoting her upcoming film Mother!, Lawrence was asked by journalist Jackie Long for her thoughts on the many changes happening in the U.S. over the past year.

“It’s scary,” Lawrence replied, adding, “You know, it’s this new language that’s forming. I don’t even recognize it. It’s also scary to know that climate change is due to human activity, and we continue to ignore it.”

When asked more pointedly about the hurricanes, Lawrence said it was hard to watch the ongoing devastation, especially when promoting a movie titled Mother!.

“You’re watching these hurricanes now and … it’s hard not to feel Mother Nature’s rage [and] wrath,” she said.

“It’s really polarizing and upsetting,” the actress continued. “I’ve heard things and seen things on TV in my own country that devastate me and make me sick. It’s just really confusing.”

Long then asked Lawrence if she finds President Donald Trump confusing, to which Lawrence quickly answered, “I don’t find him confusing. I know exactly what he is.”

Lawrence has never been a shrinking violet when it comes to politics—in fact, the 27-year-old campaigned for Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential election. On Election Day, Lawrence and her boyfriend, Mother! Director Darren Aronofsky, used one-on-one FaceTime calls to bribe people at Duke University to go vote.

Oh—and she’s certainly never been shy about sharing her feelings on Trump. According to the Associated Press, she once said Trump’s election might just be “the end of the world.”
