Chris Spearman, the Lethbridge Mayor, has issued an offensive t-shirt apology after receiving some fire for his choice of social media postings. Many people have tweeted that the posted shirt message is highly offensive and insensitive to the fairer sex. Recently Spearman posted a picture of a t-shirt that was hanging in the window of a shop on main street in Banff, and the slogan shows a list of the top 10 reasons hockey is better than women. Almost as soon as Spearman posted the photo on his personal Facebook page the complaints about the post started rolling in. Somehow the post went out on Twitter, and that was when people started to respond. The mayor has tweeted out numerous apologies to those who were offended.
According to Lethbridge Mayor Chris Spearman “I did see that T-shirt in the window in the shop on main street and I took a picture of the T-shirt. It went from my personal Facebook page out into Twitter — I’m not sure how that happened. I saw it as an attempt at humour, but in reflection, it’s in poor taste. I’d just like to apologize — I made a mistake and I’ll be more careful in the future as to what I put even on my personal accounts on social media.” Even the many offensive t-shirt apology attempts has not mollified many who were offended, but some are saying that people need to learn how to take a joke and not take everything so seriously.
