Wood Buffalo RCMP Investigates Domestic Disturbance, Seize Drugs and Cash

Wood Buffalo RCMP recently investigated a domestic disturbance case that resulted in drug seizures, the seizure of thousands of dollars in cash, and the arrest of a 32 year old man from Fort MacMurray. On October 23, 2014 the Wood Buffalo RCMP dispatched officers to investigate a domestic disturbance complaint at the Louti Road and Confederate Way intersection. According to Wood Buffalo RCMP Cpl. George Cameron “They were dispatched to one of the intersections, where it appeared that a male driver and his female passenger were involved in some kind of domestic dispute in the vehicle.” Richard Robert Stamp was arrested at the scene for assult,, and that led to him being searched. Officers found what they suspected were illegal pills, so the drug detection dog was called to search the car, and police reported finding cocaine in the vehicle.

The drug seizures from the vehicle led Wood Buffalo RCMP to get a search warrant for the residence where Stamp resided. Cameron explained “Sometimes if we execute a search warrant, we’re going to be in every room, opening cupboards. But this dog knows exactly where to go, due to his abilities.” A safe at the residence contained $4,820 in combined Canadian and American currency which was seized, along with more pills that police suspect are illegal. 400Unidentified pills and more than 417 grams of packaged cocaine were found. Stamp was charged with possession of property obtained by a crime, three counts of trafficking of a controlled substance, assault, possession of a controlled substance, and two counts of failing to comply with probation.

Wood Buffalo RCMP Traffic Stop Leads to Numerous Charges Against Local Individuals

A late night traffic stop by Wood Buffalo RCMP on October 6 resulted in numerous charges against local Fort MacMurray residents. A 21 year old local female, Ashley Louise Waldriff, and a 22 year old local male, Jamie Lee Ridderikhoff, were charged with multiple offenses once the traffic stop was conducted by Wood Buffalo law enforcement. Jamie Lee Ridderikhoff was charged with stolen property charges, prostitution charges, and drug trafficking offenses. Waldriff was charged with drug trafficking and with offenses for stolen property. Law enforcement reported that a patrol officer was on duty right after midnight, and the officer observed both individuals who were engaged in suspicious activity in a parked vehicle. This led the Wood Buffalo RCMP to approach the vehicle where it became apparent that the two people inside were engaging in sexual activity in the vehicle.

According to Wood Buffalo RCMP officer Cst. Kandice Perry said that the initial investigation led to the arrests of the individuals in the vehicle. Perry went on to say that “The investigation revealed that they were engaging in sexual activity in the vehicle. During their investigation, arrests were made. Once the search was made on the vehicle they located the cocaine in addition to a large sum of money within the vehicle.” The actual charges against Ridderikhoff included a single count of living off the avails of prostitution, a single count of possession of stolen property, and two charges for trafficking a controlled substance. Waldriff faces one count for each of the following offenses: possession of stolen property, trafficking a controlled substance, and possession for the purposes of trafficking.

Wood Buffalo RCMP Arrest Man Involved in Human Trafficking

On September 7 the Wood Buffalo RCMP arrested a man who has been involve din human trafficking in the past, and this is not the first contact that local police have had with Raphael Patrick Duchard. When police stopped a man for speeding along Highway 63 the vehicle was a rental, and the male presented Wood Buffalo RCMP with a drivers license from Quebec. The vehicle had the smell of marijuana in the interior so a Police Service Dog was called out. Trace amounts of the drug were found in the vehicle so police placed the license on a 24 hour suspension. The male driver left after being told he could pick up his license the next day. When the license was not redeemed from the Wood Buffalo RCMP after 7 days it caused suspicion.

After becoming suspicious the Wood Buffalo RCMP did some further investigation and it was determined that the license which had been provided was a fake, and the male was actually Raphael Patrick Duchard of Quebec. Duchard is wanted on a number of outstanding warrants from the Ontario police. These warrants include sexually assaulting a 17 year old, assaulting a female, benefiting from human trafficking, human trafficking, and even living on the avails of prostitution. According to Wood Buffalo RCMP Cpl. George Cameron“We don’t have anything indicating he has been active on that side of things here in Fort McMurray. It sounds like he just got here.”

Wood Buffalo RCMP Gives Out Almost 700 Charges to Drivers in 10 Day Period

For the 10 day period, starting on August 22 and through September 1, the Wood Buffalo RCMP gave out 680 driving charges to motorists for a variety of offenses. The daily average was 68, and the driving charges ranged from going a few miles over the speed limit to impaired driving. There were 23 individuals charged with exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 kilometres, 3 individuals were charged with impaired driving under the Criminal Code, 6 individuals were charged with careless driving, and 9 drivers received roadside suspensions for substance abuse while they were driving. The sheer number of driving charges handed out by the Wood Buffalo RCMP show the magnitude of the problem when it comes to keeping the roads in Wood buffalo safe for motorists.

Some of the most notable driving charges and other offenses that the Wood Buffalo RCMP encountered included a 26 year old male who was driving 135 km/h in an area posted for 60 km/h, and he was driving a Ford Mustang when stopped and charged. Another report detailed a Hyundai Sonata which was reported stolen, and the 25 year old male driver was doing 130 km/h in a 100 km/h area. This occurred on Highway 63 near Fort MacMurray, and the man was charged with a number of offenses. The report states that the driver had several outstanding warrants, he was under suspension, both criminal and provincial, and he assaulted an officer after being stopped. These are in addition to driving a stolen vehicle and being impaired.

Street Fight in Timberlea Leads to Two Arrests

Wood Buffalo RCMP needs the public’s help in order to locate persons of interest concerning a street fight in Timberlea. The fight caused two individuals to be arrested, both juveniles, but the Wood Buffalo RCMP are still looking for the other people who were involved in the brawl. The street fight occurred on August 30th, at around 4:30 am. When police responded at 4:40 am the report stated a fight involving numerous people on Ball Place. Numerous vehicles were damaged in the area, and some vehicles had items that were taken. Some of these items included golf clubs which police believe were used to damage the 5 vehicles as well as commit assaults against others in the fight. Two people were injured but they had non life threatening injuries as a result of the brawl.

According to the Wood Buffalo RCMP two juveniles were arrested on numerous charges, but there were other individuals involved in the Timberlea street brawl as well. A male juvenile from Fort MacMurray was charged with 5 separate counts of mischief over $5,000, a charge of assault with a weapon, and a count of theft in an amount under $5,000. The second male juvenile charged is also from Fort MacMurray, and he is charged with a single count of mischief over $5,000, a charge of aggravated assault, and a count of theft in an amount under $5,000. The Wood Buffalo RCMP are asking the public to come forward and identify the other individuals who took part in the Timberlea street fight.

Wood Buffalo RCMP Engage in Weekend Check Stops

Over the course of three weekends the Wood Buffalo RCMP engaged in check stops across the entire region, and this resulted in at least 100 charges against motorists in the area. The check stops were held as part of a National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day, and police efforts really paid off. Some motorists received charges, and some had suspensions as a result of the check stops. Infractions by motorists ranged from speeding to drug possession charges to impaired driving. 13 motorists had their vehicles towed, and police seized 13 grams of cocaine with the help of the Police Dog Service Unit. The Wood Buffalo RCMP thanked residents for the patience that was shown during the check stops, and reminded everyone that they are only trying to make the roads safer for the entire community.

During the stop checks by Wood Buffalo RCMP 26 motorists were cited for speeding, and three of these motorists were caught doing well above the posted speed limit of 70km/hr. One was clocked at 142 km/h, one at 162 km/h, and one at 174 km/h. 60 motorists were cited for offenses that involved distracted driving or intersection infractions. In addition the Wood Buffalo RCMP caught 6 impaired driving, 4 suspensions of 72 hours, and 8 suspensions of 24 hours that were related to alcohol or drugs. The results show that the weekend check stops were effective at removing dangerous or impaired motorists from the road while minimizing any delays or hassles to law abiding residents and visitors.
