An Ottawa terror probe has led to the arrest of a third suspect after twin brothers were arrested in recent days. Suliman Mohamed, a 21 year old from Ottawa, was arrested on Monday by the RCMP Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET). The charges involve conspiracy to participate in a terrorist activity and participating in the activity of a terrorist group. Reports show that the arrest was made with help from local police and the OPP, and that it is linked to the previous arrest of the Larmond brothers although the details are not fully clear to the public yet on what the link is. According to the criminal operations officer for Ontario, RCMP chief Supt. Jennifer Strachan“ These recent arrests underscore the reality that there are individuals in Ontario and in Canada who have become radicalized to a violent ideology, and who are willing to act upon it. Thanks to the ongoing collaborative efforts of our INSET partners, we are in a better position to target these threats and protect the Canadian public.”

The third suspect arrested after the Ottawa terror probe has ties to the Larmond brothers. So far law enforcement has not disclosed what the terroristic activities were that the trio are suspected of, or which terrorist organization they have or planned o participate in. Carlos Larmond was arrested at the airport where he planned to leave the country, and allegations from the RCMP are that Carlos was leaving to take part in some terrorist group. All 3 of the men arrested so far are from Canada.

Two Albuquerque Police Officers Face Murder Charges in Shooting

Two Albuquerque police officers are now facing murder charges as a result of an on duty shooting which killed a homeless camper and that ignited protests which have turned violent at times. The shooting has also started a federal investigation because of excessive force complaints against the Albuquerque police department. The incident which led up to the shooting is not in dispute, 38 year old James Boyd was holding two knives and caused a standoff with police that lasted hours. A helmet camera worn by an officer captured the shooting on tape, and the video seems to show Boyd surrendering when he was shot. Second District Attorney Kari Brandenburg has charged Keith Sandy, a former detective, and Dominique Perez, a SWAT team member, with one count of open murder each.

The open murder charges against the two Albuquerque police officers will allow the prosecutor to seek either first or second degree murder convictions against each of the officers involved. James Boyd had struggled with mental illness in the past. The results in this case are far different from recent police related deaths in Ferguson, Missouri and New York City, New York. In the previous cases the officers involved were not charged at all, causing protests around the country. Defense attorney Sam Bergman who is representing Sandy in this case told the media that “Keith, as a police officer, had not only the right, but the duty to defend a fellow officer from a mentally unstable, violent man wielding two knives.”

Mourad Hamyd, the 18 year old brother in law of one of the Kouachi brothers who perpetrated the Charlie Hendo attack in Paris that killed 12, was wrongfully accused of being involved and was in school when the terrorist attack at the newspaper happened. As soon as Mourad found out about the accusations against him the teen turned himself in to the local police in order to straighten things out. Hamyd was often called the third suspect, but numerous witnesses have stated that the teen was in school with classmates when his distant brother in law was involved in the violent Paris attack. The police released Hamyd Friday without any charges at all after verifying that he was not one of the gunmen who committed the massacre at the newspaper office, and the teen was visibly shaken and shocked to find himself linked to the terrorist actions of the distant relative.

When the wrongfully accused teen talked to journalists about not being involved in the Charlie Hebdo attack Wednesday Mourad Hamyd said “I was stunned, completely overwhelmed by the events but the police officers were very correct with me. I’m in shock, people said horrible and false things about me on social media even though I am a normal student who lives quietly with his parents. The attack was horrific and my thoughts are with the victims. I only hope this won’t taint my future. I have nothing to do with this whole thing, Cherif is just my brother-in-law with whom we have a fairly distant relationship.”

A Muslim worker at the Paris supermarket where Amedy Coulibaly took hostages and died in a gunfight with police is being hailed as a hero after he saved customers who were in the store when the terrorist entered. When Coulibaly came into the supermarket and started shooting 24 year old Lassana Bathily thought quickly, and he led several customers into the basement walk in freezer at Hyper Cache where they hid until the siege was over and they were rescued. When interviewed by the media Lassana Bathily said “I opened the door, and several people came in with me. I turned off the lights, I turned off the freezer, and they got into the freezer. I told them to calm down, to not make noise. If he knows we’re here, he can come down and kill us.”

The hero Muslim worker who is being praised because of his actions that saved customers did not hide in the freezer with everyone else, he was courageous enough to exit the store using a freight elevator. When Bathily finally escaped the police initially thought he was one of the gunmen and he was handcuffed. Once the officers realized that Lassana was a store employee he helped them by describing the floor plan and layout of the store as well as the location of the saved customers that he helped hide before leaving. Bathily stated “When they got out, they congratulated me. They said, “Honestly, thank you for having thought of that,” and I said, “You’re welcome. It’s nothing, that’s life.”

A Kansas gun store robbery attempt ended with the owner of the store dead, his wife injured, and three of the four would be robbers suffering from wounds as well. When four men attempted to rob the She’s A Pistol LLC gun store located in Shawnee, Kansas, they got more than they bargained for because the owners, a husband and wife, fought back and did some shooting of their own. 44 year old John Baker, the husband who owned the store, was injured and taken to a nearby hospital where he died. The couple open fired when the men showed their intent to rob the store, and the wife was punched and injured in the shootout as well. According to Shawnee Police Department Major Dan Tennis “There was a big gun battle, lots of shots fired.”

After the Kansas gun store robbery attempt two of the four robbers were apprehended at the scene, and the other two robbers turned themselves into law enforcement later on. Unfortunately the store owner was killed, but the couple kept the robbers from taking off with a large amount of weapons and other items. The wife’s injuries were not life threatening but she has to face the fact that her husband is dead. It is unclear why the foursome targeted the gun store or what they were after at this time, but it is clear that their idea was not a very bright one. Everybody knows that owners of gun stores have weapons and are probably not afraid to use them.

Boko Haram Believed to be Involved in Suicide Bombing Using 10 Year Old Bomber

A 10 year old bomber is believed to be behind a suicide bombing in a market in Nigeria, and Boko Haram is suspected to be the responsible terrorist group behind the attack. 19 people were killed in the attack, and many others were injured. The market was crowded when the suicide bombing occurred, This is the same market which has been the scene of two suicide bombings by women late last year, but this time a 10 year old girl was used instead. This attack comes just a week after what many are calling the worst attack in 6 years when the town of Bagan, a fishing community, was attacked by Boko Haram. Bagan and numerous settlements close by were burned to the ground, and more than 20,000 residents were forced to flee the area in order to avoid being slaughtered.

Some who were present in the market believe the 10 year old bomber was just an innocent victim, and that the suicide bombing was remote controlled. Boko Haram has not claimed responsibility yet but the group has a tendency to use women and young girls as suicide bombers. According to civilian vigilante Ashiru Mustapha, who was in the market when the explosion occurred, said “The girl was about 10 years old and I doubt if she actually knew what was strapped to her body. In fact, she was searched at the entrance of the market and the metal detector indicated that she was carrying something. But sadly, the explosion went off before she was isolated.” Abubakar Bakura, another witness, said “The blast split the suicide bomber into two and flung one part across the road. Among the dead are two vigilantes who were searching the girl. I am pretty sure the bomb was remotely controlled.”
