Amnesty International, a human rights group that operates around the globe, has suggested that the recent Boko Haram attack in Bagan is the deadliest so far and the Nigeria massacre claimed many lives. According to the organization the death toll may be as high as 2,000 or even more, and the city of Bagan was burned to the ground along with 16 settlements nearby. In all there were approximately 20,000 people who were fleeing the area, and the bodies are still piled up everywhere as the fighting continues in the area. Government spokesman Mike Omeri told reporters that the fighting continued Friday, and that “Security forces have responded rapidly, and have deployed significant military assets and conducted airstrikes against militant targets.” Photographs show numerous bodies that have not been removed due to the danger involved while the fighting continues.

The Bagan Nigeria Massacre by Boko Haram has been condemned by many groups and organizations, including Amnesty International, and most of the victims are believed to be women, children, and the elderly who could not get out of the way or escape fast enough when the town came under attack. When the insurgents rolled into town they immediately started firing assault rifles and rocket propelled grenades indiscriminately. The forces were not just targeting structures either, they were actually firing on any residents who were caught out in the open as well. Abba Gava, the civilian resistance spokesman for the group that fights against Boko Haram, said that “The human carnage perpetrated by Boko Haram terrorists in Bagan was enormous. Civilian fighters gave up on trying to count all the bodies. No one could attend to the corpses and even the seriously injured ones who may have died by now.”

Boko Haram Believed to be Involved in Suicide Bombing Using 10 Year Old Bomber

A 10 year old bomber is believed to be behind a suicide bombing in a market in Nigeria, and Boko Haram is suspected to be the responsible terrorist group behind the attack. 19 people were killed in the attack, and many others were injured. The market was crowded when the suicide bombing occurred, This is the same market which has been the scene of two suicide bombings by women late last year, but this time a 10 year old girl was used instead. This attack comes just a week after what many are calling the worst attack in 6 years when the town of Bagan, a fishing community, was attacked by Boko Haram. Bagan and numerous settlements close by were burned to the ground, and more than 20,000 residents were forced to flee the area in order to avoid being slaughtered.

Some who were present in the market believe the 10 year old bomber was just an innocent victim, and that the suicide bombing was remote controlled. Boko Haram has not claimed responsibility yet but the group has a tendency to use women and young girls as suicide bombers. According to civilian vigilante Ashiru Mustapha, who was in the market when the explosion occurred, said “The girl was about 10 years old and I doubt if she actually knew what was strapped to her body. In fact, she was searched at the entrance of the market and the metal detector indicated that she was carrying something. But sadly, the explosion went off before she was isolated.” Abubakar Bakura, another witness, said “The blast split the suicide bomber into two and flung one part across the road. Among the dead are two vigilantes who were searching the girl. I am pretty sure the bomb was remotely controlled.”
