We Just Got a Bunch of Details About Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's New House

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are very busy royals these days. Not only are the Duke and Duchess of Sussex preparing for the birth of their first child, they’ve moved into a new house, launched an Instagram account, and just this morning we learned Prince Harry is teaming up with Oprah Winfrey for a new docuseries about metal health.

Luckily, it sounds like the royal couple will get to relax a bit before their baby arrives now that they’re settled into their new home, Frogmore Cottage, in Windsor—a wedding gift from the queen. And, in a not-so-surprising twist, their new digs sound amazing. “One of the reasons they wanted to be in Windsor was to have space and privacy,” a source tells Vanity Fair. “They felt very overlooked at Kensington Palace. At Frogmore they can go to ground, which at the moment suits them perfectly.” Apparently, “Fort Knox”-level security measures have been put into place. “No one can get close. Harry and Meghan have made Frogmore their very own fortress,” another source tells Vanity Fair. “Right now it seems they just want to hide away.”

We don’t have any photographs of the estate’s renovations, but it’s been reported the couple built an annex to the home for guests—specifically Markle’s mom, Doria Ragland, who’s expected to be in the U.K. for the birth of her first grandchild. The space could also be used for a nanny if they opt for one. They also planted an organic vegetable garden, according to the Daily Mail, which seems super on-brand for Markle, whose first major project as a royal was the charity cookbook, Together.

And just because the Sussexes no longer live right by Prince William and Kate Middleton doesn’t mean they won’t have royal neighbors. The queen herself is often nearby at Windsor Castle and Sophie, Countess of Wessex—who is married to Prince Charles’ younger brother, Prince Edward—lives close with Edward and their two children. “The queen likes the idea of Sophie being an unofficial mentor to Meghan,” a family friend tells Vanity Fair. “Sophie is often at Windsor taking the kids riding on the queen’s horses and playing at the castle. It’s a quiet lifestyle, very much the kind Harry and Meghan want for their little one.”

It all sounds pretty idyllic, if you ask us. Now let’s hope we get a glimpse inside Frogmore sometime soon—perhaps once Baby Sussex arrives.
