Taylor Swift Sent Cardi B Flowers to Congratulate Her on 'Bodak Yellow' Hitting No.1

Something historical happened in pop music last week: For the first time in three years, two women snagged the top spots on Billboard‘s Hot 100: Taylor Swift (“Look What You Made Me Do”) and Cardi B (“Bodak Yellow”). This should’ve been cause for celebration, but it ended up being a catalyst for social media to pit two female artists against each other. Swift and, oddly enough, Nicki Minaj fans started flooding Twitter with messages urging people to stream “Look What You Made Me Do” more so Cardi B wouldn’t take the number-one spot. The narrative quickly switched from, “This is amazing! Two women at the top!” to, “There’s no way your fave’s gonna beat my fave”—which is pretty reductive.

Ultimately, “Bodak Yellow” did surpass “Look What You Made Me Do” on the Hot 100, making Cardi B the first female rapper in 19 years to have a number-one hit. Again, this is huge, but fans and the media chose to focus on how she “dethroned” Swift from her number-one reign. This competition between Swift and Cardi B—who are two drastically different artists—came out of nowhere, proving music sexism still happens despite the progress we’ve made. For context: Men dominated the Hot 100 all summer, but did anyone ever talk Bruno Mars and Luis Fonsi duking it out for number one? Nope.

But Cardi B shut down any speculation she’s feuding with Swift last night on Instagram. The former Love & Hip Hop star posted a Boomerang of flowers Swift sent her, presumably to congratulate her on “Bodak Yellow” reaching number one.

“Sooo beautiful and lovely. Thank you @taylorswift for the flowers ? ❤️ ❤️ ….and I freaking love your music,” Cardi B captioned the video, which shows her grinning ear to ear.

There you have it, folks. No beef in sight. Just women supporting women—something that happens way more than social media lets on. Now, can we stop looking for drama between these two and just enjoy their bops?
