Kim Kardashian West Finally Admits That, Yes, She's Indeed a 'Feminist'

Kim Kardashian West has received criticism in the past for her stance on feminism—mostly that she doesn’t consider herself one—but now she wants to set the record straight that she is, indeed, a feminist at her core.

When asked point-blank if she considers herself to be a feminist icon in a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar Arabia, Kim responded that she simply doesn’t need a label to classify herself as such. “I said once before that I’m not really a feminist. But I feel I do a lot more than people that claim that they’re feminist,” she explained. “To clarify what I said before: I feel in my soul I’m a feminist. I just don’t need labels to make me feel or know what I am inside.”

A part of that feminism, she argues, is being able to remain a sensual being and not having a crisis of identity despite being a mother. “More power to the moms that look really good, work really hard, do what they can so that they still feel sexy, still feel good about themselves,” she said. “I don’t think for a second that because you become a mom you can’t be sexy any more.”

Kim’s new comments come a year after she wrote an essay about feminism that got people’s heads scratching. In it, she refused to call herself one, but shared all of the ideology’s fundamental tenants. “I feel that being grouped or labeled can create separation between people who do (or don’t) fall into certain categories, when they may actually share many of the same beliefs and goals,” she said at the time. “The fight for equality is about ALL human beings being treated equally—regardless of gender, sexuality or ethnicity. I’ll always fight for women’s rights. Always.”
