Barack Obama Celebrated Michelle's New Book In the Sweetest Way

Before its release on Tuesday, Michelle Obama’s new memoir Becoming had been so highly anticipated, it received more pre-orders at Barnes & Noble than any book since Harper Lee’s 2015 novel Go Set a Watchman. But it’s Barack Obama who seems to have been more excited than anyone.

On Tuesday, the former president went on Instagram and made a plug for his wife’s memoir—but being Barack Obama, he did so in the most romantic way.

“Of course, @MichelleObama’s my wife, so I’m a little biased here,” he wrote in a post that included a picture of the memoir sitting on a table. “But she also happens to be brilliant, funny, wise – one of a kind. This book tells her quintessentially American story. I love it because it faithfully reflects the woman I have loved for so long.”

It’s not the first time the Obamas have showered each other with love on social media. They commemorated their most recent anniversary with some adorable photos, and Michelle posted this stunning wedding throwback ahead of the book’s release. We also can’t forget (or stop playing) that Valentine’s Day mix Michelle made Barack in February.

Becoming is an intimate look at Michelle’s early life and career, and it takes readers behind-the-scenes during her tenure as First Lady. Michelle describes deeply personal moments in detail, discussing everything from embarrassing her daughter Malia on prom night to coping with a miscarriage and fertility issues earlier in her marriage.

On Wednesday, Michelle kicked off a 12-stop tour in Chicago, where she joined Oprah Winfrey for an interview about the memoir. She shared a few things that weren’t in the book, including how she broke down in tears after Inauguration Day in 2017.

“I didn’t write about this in the book, because I had forgotten about it … when I got on the plane I think I sobbed for 30 minutes,” she said. “I think it was just the release of eight years of trying to do everything perfectly. I said to Barack, ‘That was so hard. What we just did that was so hard and I’ve wanted to say that for eight years.'”

Becoming is already striking a chord with audiences. It topped Amazon’s best-seller list days before its official release, showing that most people are with Barack when it comes to his wife’s brilliant work.
