Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Sneaked in a Romantic Getaway During Their Royal Tour

With the end of their first royal tour as a couple in sight, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry managed to carve out some private time within their schedule to spend one evening together on a Fijian island.

Per The Telegraph, the couple were “hosted privately” at the Vatuvara Private Island Resort, nestled on the island of Kaibu. The island, while quite small in size, boasts just about everything you could want on a getaway—huge villas, crystal-blue water, tropical views, you name it.

“We are proud to host them. This is a worldwide event so it is tremendous for us. They are a couple with global appeal to everyone,” Fiji’s tourism minister told The Telegraph. “Vatuvara is one of those islands you will not forget. It showcases the Fijian spirit and what we have as Fijian people. It’s absolutely beautiful. Stunning. They would have enjoyed themselves.” As this was designated as a private event for Markle and Prince Harry, there was no statement or itinerary issued by Kensington Palace regarding their stay.

The couple’s evening in paradise came after a jam-packed day in Fiji, which began with Markle giving her first public speech on this royal tour. Speaking to students at the University of the South Pacific, Markle preached the importance of higher education for women, weaving in personal experiences about attending college at Northwestern. “Everyone should be afforded the opportunity to receive the education they want, but more importantly the education they have the right to receive,” she said.

“And for women and girls in developing countries, this is vital.” (Obviously, Prince Harry was gushing throughout the entire speech.) Markle also did a solo outing to a market later that afternoon to meet with a group of local vendors, but had to abruptly leave early, owing to security concerns.

Let’s hope the rest of the trip is smooth sailing from here.
