Meghan Markle Touched Prince Harry's Back Today, and Twitter's Swooning
If you thought the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle mania was dying down now that the royal wedding is over, think again. The new Duke and Duchess of Sussex had their first engagement today as a married couple: the 70th birthday patronage celebration for Harry’s father, Prince Charles, at the Buckingham Palace Gardens.
At the event, Markle and Prince Harry shared a subtle PDA moment that’s setting the Internet ablaze. While walking back into the palace, the new Duchess of Sussex let go of her husband’s arm to give him a small back rub, as seen in a video posted by the Daily Mail‘s royal correspondent on Twitter.
Below, check out some Twitter reactions of Prince Harry and Markle’s tender moment:

As Cosmopolitan pointed out, this kind of behavior is yet another way that Markle is shaking up royal tradition; Prince William and Kate; Prince Charles and Camilla; and Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip all rarely engage in this kind of “PDA.” The women of the royal family only occasionally hold on to their husbands’ arms while walking together, if anything.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, on the other hand, have never held back from outwardly expressing their love for each other. Way back in October, before they announced their engagement, Markle and Prince Harry were spotted holding hands, leaning on each other, and—gasp!—kissing at the closing ceremony of the Invictus Games.
In recent months, as Markle began joining Prince Harry on royal outings, they often held hands while greeting well-wishers. And on Saturday, the couple continually held hands, gazed into each other’s eyes, and stole kisses throughout their wedding ceremony and carriage procession throughout Windsor.
