It's Time to Get Reacquainted With Polo Shirts
Polo shirts were once considered the foundation of a preppy, all-American wardrobe, thanks to designers like Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger making them mainstays in their collection. In recent years, though, it’s been reintroduced as an archival silhouette that can be continuously reinvented. On the most recent runways, we saw the likes of Marni, Koché, and No. 21 riff on and reboot the style with fresh fabrics (lace! sheer! mesh!) and exaggerated details (double collars! cropped hems! clashing patterns!) for spring 2018. Even if we’re just talking practicality, there’s no better top for in-between seasons than a polo: It can be layered over a turtleneck on cold days, or worn by itself, its sporty shape perfect for summer. The popped-collar look may have stayed in the aughts, but polo shirts feel pretty timely today. Check out the styles ahead to be convinced of its comeback.
