Kate Middleton Has Given Birth to Baby Number 3

It’s official: Kate Middleton has given birth to baby number three: a boy. Kensington Palace announced the news Monday (April 23) via a statement on Twitter.

“Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 1101hrs.The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz,” the Palace’s tweet reads. “The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”

“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news,” the Palace said in another tweet.

Early morning on Monday, April 23, Kensington Palace announced that Middleton had gone into labor and traveled by car with Prince William to St. Mary’s Hospital. “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was admitted to St. Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, London earlier this morning in the early stages of labour,” the Palace’s statement read. “The Duchess travelled by car from Kensington Palace to the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital with The Duke of Cambridge.”

In a second tweet, Kensington Palace continued, “The world’s media are gathered outside the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital ahead of the birth of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s third child.”

The Palace first revealed that Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William were expecting their first child back in September 2017. “Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting their third child,” the original release read. “The Queen and members of both families are delighted with the news.”

Unsurprisingly, Middleton’s third pregnancy caused a media firestorm. Any little hint Prince William or Middleton gave about baby number three set the Internet ablaze. Most of it was harmless, but things took a turn in October 2017 when social media users actually started criticizing the size of Middleton’s baby bump. (For the record, there is no “acceptable” size for a bump because all women carry their pregnancies differently.)

Middleton and Prince William have two other children: Prince George, 4, and Princess Charlotte, 2. The adorable photos of the four of them during their Royal Family tour of Poland and Germany were Internet fodder for the larger portion of summer 2017.

Of course, Middleton giving birth isn’t the only exciting event involving the Royal Family right now. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are slated to tie the knot next month—on Saturday, May 19, to be exact—at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.
