Celebrities Are Really Into Jean Atelier's Folded-Over Jean

There’s something happening to the jeans worn by our favorite celebrities: Where you’d expect to see belt loops, there’s actually a folded-over top, creating almost a collar effect. In the past week, Gigi Hadid and Elsa Hosk have worn the confusing-yet-intriguing style, created by Jean Atelier, a new denim-based ready-to-wear brand founded by Jerome Dahan (who started Citizens of Humanity) and Noam Hanoch (who previously ran a namesake label).

The Flip jean, as it’s called, is from the brand’s inaugural Fall 2017 collection, and it’s clearly been a hit. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was the first big name to wear it (on Instagram, with a Gucci T-shirt tucked into it), but the brand had already seen success with the style before that: When it was picked up by online retailer FWRD by Elyse Walker for its fall buy it sold out in a matter of days, a rep for Jean Atelier tells Glamour.

The silhouette draws from denim trends of the ’80s, when women would fold over men’s jeans in order to have them fit, and Jean Atelier adapted the concept into a design made for the female frame.

The brand is sold at Barneys New York, FWRD by Elyse Walker, Farfetch, and Moda Operandi, with products retailing between $350 and $1,875. The premium (read: high) price tag hasn’t dissuaded its fan base—some frequent customers include Olivia Culpo, Elsa Hosk, and Shanina Shaik; Jennifer Lawrence, Camila Cabello, and Kourtney Kardashian have also been spotted in the brand. Many of these have also proven to be devotees of the Flip jean—which makes us inclined to speculate that the folded-over look might be going mass sooner than we think.

See how celebrities have worn the trend, ahead.
