RCMP have issued a Canada-wide warrant for the arrest of a dangerous offender who disappeared after an escorted visit to a powwow at the Samson Cree First Nation.
Darell Moosomin is serving an indeterminate sentence at a federal prison in Maskwacis for a list of convictions dating back to 1995, including aggravated assault, forcible confinement and uttering threats. He was declared a dangerous offender in 2008.
He was granted permission for an escorted visit with an elder to the powwow on Saturday when the elder lost sight of him and Moosomin was able to walk away. He hasn’t been seen since.
Police say Moosomin, 54, has no family or friends in the area and his destination is not known. He is originally from Mosquito Lake, Sask.
Moosomin is described by police as a First Nations man, 5’9″ and 217 lbs. He speaks with a lisp and has a tattoo of the number 11 on his right hand, and a Playboy bunny on his upper back.
He has a scar across his throat.
Police say Moosomin should not be approached. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to contact RCMP.
