If we had to choose the most iconic style piece[1] of all time, we would have to go with the little black dress[2]. Case in point – the LBDs Taylor Swift and Katy Perry wore on the red carpet this week. Each dress suited the A-listers’ personal style while being completely unique. Swift took her LBD to the edgy end of the spectrum while Perry went for gothic elegance. Who pulled off this look the best? We discuss below. (Side note: This style showdown is intense – Swift’s track “Bad Blood” is reportedly written about a former feud[3] with Perry.)
Find out who wore the little black dress best after the jump…
Taylor Swift in Kaufmanfranco
Taylor Swift[4] hit the red carpet at the 2015 iHeartRadio Music Awards. Swifties around the world rejoiced. This metallic Kaufmanfranco LBD (with strategically placed cutouts) dropped jaws on the red carpet and beyond. We’re also digging T. Swift’s beauty look, complete with tousled hair, a smoky eye and dark nail polish. (We only wish she would sport an outfit like this in her next music video.)
Katy Perry in Balenciaga
Is it the dark berry lip? The pulled back hair? Or perhaps the lace-up Giambattista Valli boots? Whatever it is, we barely recognized Katy Perry[5] at the Katy Perry: The Prismatic World Tour screening in Los Angeles – but we love her dramatic red carpet look. This Balenciaga tuxedo dress complements her overall aesthetic and marks Perry’s transition to a more serious style.

About Sarah Thompson
I like to think of myself as the country girl turned city slicker. True—I spent my childhood riding horses in a small town where cowboy hats and camo are the outfits of choice. Now, I ride subway trains to work in a much bigger city where my walk-in closet is filled with more popular trends. I have an obsession with anything pink and sparkly (#sorrynotsorry), and can always tell you which way is up with my keen sense of direction. Perhaps that’s what has led me to Toronto and sharing fashion and beauty stories with you fine folks (and how I always find time for home). Coincidence? I think not.
