Style stars Jennifer Lawrence[1] and Elisabeth Moss hit the red carpet in New York City this week to promote their latest on-screen projects. Although both It girls were wearing black and white (one of spring’s perennial fashion trends), each celeb rocked the look a completely different way. According to her personal style[2], J. Law went cocktail party glam while Moss strived for Sunday brunch chic. Who wore it best? We discuss below.

Find out which celebrity wore black and white best after the jump…

Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior
We’ve missed Jennifer Lawrence on the red carpet! The A-lister chose this black and white metallic Christian Dior[3] crop top and textured mini skirt for the New York screening of Serena (but we could totally picture her wearing the outfit to an opening ceremony in The Hunger Games). Paired with open-toe pumps and pulled back hair, we’ll be coveting this look in our closets for spring.

Elisabeth Moss in J. Mendel
With one of the most impressive celebrity style makeovers[4] under her belt (remember the ’90s?), Elisabeth Moss is now a fashion icon to watch. At a Mad Men screening in the Big Apple, she stepped out in a J. Mendel dress complete with a draped white bodice with black piping and a sleek pencil skirt. We’re not sure we agree with the red velvet pumps, but we give Ms. Moss bonus points for trying a pop of colour this season.

About Sarah Thompson

I like to think of myself as the country girl turned city slicker. True—I spent my childhood riding horses in a small town where cowboy hats and camo are the outfits of choice. Now, I ride subway trains to work in a much bigger city where my walk-in closet is filled with more popular trends. I have an obsession with anything pink and sparkly (#sorrynotsorry), and can always tell you which way is up with my keen sense of direction. Perhaps that’s what has led me to Toronto and sharing fashion and beauty stories with you fine folks (and how I always find time for home). Coincidence? I think not.
