So you’ve got a hangover?

Drinking should always be done in moderation, but on St. Patrick’s Day, we know the tendency can be to imbibe more than usual. Below, the ELLE Canada team shares their preferred methods of dealing with a hangover. (The consensus seems to be: drink more water and less booze! Duh.)

Noreen Flanagan, editor-in-chief: Water. Water—and more water. Oh, and the greasiest breakie of bangers and eggs.

Vanessa Craft, beauty director: As soon as I get home I chug a large glass of water. 60% of the time it works every time.

Katherine Flemming, health and beauty editor: I always make sure to eat something starchy to anchor the booze. Drinking on an empty stomach is foolish! In the morning, I try and hit a hot yoga class that has plenty of twisting poses (to wring out the previous night’s sauv blanc) and drink as much green juice[2] as possible.

Victoria DiPlacido, assistant beauty editor: I head to the nearest Starbucks to pick up coconut water, a banana and a venti camomile tea.

Lisa Guimond, fashion features editor: I drink as much water as possible at the end of the night – it’s a lot of water, but it’s worth it. Oh, and I can’t resist a poutine (I’m a Montrealer, after all.) Whether I have one after a night out or the next day, it’s really a cure-all for me. The greasier the better.

Liz Guber, workflow editor: The best preventative measure for a hangover is the memory of the last hangover you had (the worse it is the better!) to make you think twice about overindulging again. If that fails, try coconut water.

Sarah Thompson, content producer: Sleep, sleep and more sleep!

About Victoria DiPlacido

Rather than feeling overwhelmed when walking into a Sephora, I am decidedly zen. The beauty biz is my happy place. Whatever product or treatment promises dewy, glowing skin—retinoids, acids, oils, hydrating cloth masks—I want to know more. (Good thing I’m on the beauty team.) What stands out to me? If it’s Beyoncé-backed, I’m in. Punny or tongue-in-cheek product names (OPI wins at this game: their Bastille My Heart nail polish is a personal favourite) don’t hurt, either. But nothing makes me happier than discovering a life-changing product so I can share it with ELLE readers in print and online.
