Two members of a drug gang with ties to Mexican cartels are back in jail after Edmonton police arrested them on fresh drug charges.
The two were originally arrested in December when police busted several members of the La Familia gang, while seizing kilograms of drugs, thousands of dollars in cash, and assault rifles.
A 28-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman released on bail, were re-arrested a week ago by Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams after officers witnessed a suspected drug deal in a southeast Edmonton parking lot.
A search of a vehicle and home turned up 10 grams of cocaine.
The pair face trafficking and breach of recognizance charges and will be back in court March 27.
According to ALERT, La Familia is trying to move in on Alberta’s drug trade.
