A loud gas explosion near Fort Saskatchewan shook homes kilometres away and caused a fireball near Highway 15.
Firefighters and the RCMP arrived at the scene of the leak near 119th Street and Highway 15 just before noon Wednesday.
“I heard a boom and the house shook,” said Ann Bibby, who lives about 10 kilometres from the explosion.
“I thought someone was trying to come in the back door, because the doors were rattling.”
Bibby said she went outside a few minutes later and heard another small explosion.
The explosion caused a fireball, although the flames have now been extinguished, according to Fort Saskatchewan Fire Chief James Clark.
Police have Highway 15 closed between 114th Street and 119th Street.
“We are still getting details from the scene but I am told the incident is under control and there is no active fire at this time,” he stated in a news release.
