A fatal collision in Calgary leads to a guilty plea by the driver. On August 18, 2012 at around 3:30 am Ramandeep Singh Jaswal blew through a stop sign, hitting a woman and sending her a distance from the accident while killing her in the process. Minutes after hitting the woman Jaswal inquired if his car was going to be okay, without showing the same consideration for his victim. The guilty plea means that the reckless driver will probably spend some time in the penitentiary and the plea covered four charges. Ramandeep Singh Jaswal entered a guilty plea for dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, and refusing to provide breath samples where bodily harm and death occurred.

After the guilty plea for the fatal collision Jonathan Hak, the Crown prosecutor, read from the facts that were agreed on. These facts included that Jaswal was driving at least two times the posted speed limit in the area where the fatal collision occurred, and that he ran the red light at Sarcee Trail S.W. And Bow Trail. Hak told the court that Jaswal struck a Ford pickup carrying Sean Mahoney and Kelli-Jo Smith, Mahoney’s wife. “Smith struck the side of a barrier and came to rest approximately 11 metres from the Ford. Smith suffered major head injuries and died at the scene. The Mercedes was calculated to be travelling between 123 km/h and 145 km/h at the time of impact.” Sean Mahoney was also severely injured in the fatal collision, suffering from broken vertebra, broken teeth, soft tissue damage over his body, a head injury, and dislocated neck discs.
