Three people were killed in a highway crash on Highway 12 northeast of Rocky Mountain House on Tuesday morning.
The crash happened near Range Road 4-4 when two pickup trucks — one heading eastbound and one heading westbound — collided.
EMS officials say it wasn’t a head-on crash, but one of the trucks lost control and hit the other one.
The driver of the eastbound truck was pronounced dead at the scene, as well as two occupants in the westbound vehicle.
Two other people were injured and taken to hospitals in Rocky Mountain House and Red Deer, EMS officials said.
All of the crash victims were males estimated to be in their mid-40s.
Road conditions were icy at the time of the crash.
STARS dispatched helicopters from both Calgary and Edmonton but later called them back.
Rocky Mountain House is roughly 200 kilometres northwest of Calgary.
