Highway 63 Chase Leads to Recovery of Stolen Vehicle

Highway 63 chase, stolen vehicle

A stolen vehicle led to a highway 63 chase, and has helped investigators make two arrests, uncover dozens of charges, and find a haul of goods which have been linked to a number of other crimes as well. The events started with a running car at a gas station, and the vehicle was stolen. The owner of the vehicle pulled up to the gas station in Wandering River and left the vehicle unattended when he entered the store. When the vehicle was stolen the police were en route to the location when they spotted the vehicle that had been reported stolen on highway 63. When police attempted to stop the vehicle the spike belts did not have the desired effect, but the driver went into a ditch and then attempted to flee from the responding officers.

After the highway 63 chase of the stolen vehicle came to an end the officers had to smash out one of the windows in order to gain access to the male and female occupants. One of the officers involved did sustain minor injuries, and they were treated for these injuries before they returned to duty. A statement by Boyle RCMP Cst. Alex Ayres stated “We’d like to remind the public not to leave their vehicles unlocked and left with the keys inside,. While this crime was solved quickly, property crimes like these are easily preventable.” The chase and arrests have led to the recovery of two other stolen vehicles as well as property linked to crimes in Sherwood Park, Wandering River, Grand Prairie, Fort Saskatchewan, and also Prince Albert, Sask.

Mischief Charges Faced by Woman Who Reported Stolen Vehicle After Crashing Jeep

stolen vehicle, mischief charges

A 26 year old woman from Fort Chipewyan has been charged with mischief charges after reporting a stolen vehicle that was not really stolen. The woman reported to the police that her Jeep had been stolen but the truth was a far different story according to investigators. The police allege that the woman actually crashed her own vehicle, and then reported it as stolen after the crash in order to cover up the incident. Rachel Dawn Marten is now facing a count of Public Mischief, and the charge is in connection with allegations that she misled police on April 5th regarding the stolen vehicle report that she made. The allegation against the woman was the result of a thorough investigation by the Fort Chipewyan RCMP.

The mischief charges against Marten because of a stolen vehicle report are not as serious as violent crimes, but the investigation wasted the resources of the RCMP when this was not necessary. Marten reported a stolen vehicle and told police that someone took her Jeep. The vehicle was found by investigators on Dore Lake Road and it was crashed. According to RCMP Cpl. George Camperon “A passing motorist saw the Jeep on its side and that’s how our members were able to find it. Through the course of the investigation, we had determined that Rachel Marten was in fact the driver and crashed the vehicle at the time.” The Fort Chipewyan RCMp allege that Marten was driving the vehicle when the crash occurred and that the stolen vehicle report was false.
