A recent German newspaper bombing has been linked to Charlie Hebdo cartoons that the newspaper reprinted in recent days after the Paris offices of the Charlie Hebdo newspaper was attacked by armed terrorists who killed 12. According to the police in Germany there are two suspects in custody regarding the attack, which occurred late Saturday night. The newspaper, Hamburger Morgenpost, is one of the popular daily publications. After the newspaper printed some of the satirical Mohammed cartoons originally printed in Charlie Hebdo there was an incendiary device thrown through one of the windows at the paper’s office. No one was injured in the attack and the newspaper has not commented on the situation so far. The website for the paper did publish an article on Sunday which stated that the offices were empty when the attack occurred.
With the German newspaper bombing many around the globe are on high alert, but that has not stopped other publications from reprinting the Charlie Hebdo cartoons depicting Mohammed. Many feel that to do otherwise would be allowing the terrorists to win. After all, if we give up freedom in order to stay safe then we have already allowed the terrorists to be successful. US Attorney General Eric Holder has said that lone wolf terrorist attacks like the one in Paris could happen in the United States, and countries around the world are advising citizens to stay vigilant and be alert for anything suspicious. Many prominent Muslims have also spoken out against the violence being carried out by Islamic radicals in an attempt to place distance between mainstream Muslims and extremists.
