Downtown Shooting in Fort MacMurray Causes Death

Fort MacMurray, downtown shooting

A downtown shooting in Fort MacMurray has caused the death of the victim. On Tuesday May 26, at approximately 4 am, the RCMP responded to a call and found a shooting victim inside an apartment complex. The victim was transported to the hospital but police reported Wednesday evening that the 22 year old male had passed away. An RCMP spokesperson would not discuss the exact details about the death but an autopsy was performed and the death was ruled as a homicide. This is the second fatal downtown shooting in Fort MacMurray just in the month of May, and hopefully this burgeoning trend will not continue.

On May 16 of this year a downtown shooting in Fort MacMurray left a 35 year old man dead, and now the latest victim has died as well. Fort MacMurray is a good community, with many caring residents and hardworking people with families. The two shootings in May have caused concern that the rate of crime may be on the rise. So far the RCMP have not reported whether the two shooting deaths are related, and both are still under investigation.. The police have said that both of the downtown shooting incidents show that the victim was targeted, but so far that is the only factor that may link the incidents. Anyone who has any information on either shooting in Fort MacMurray is encouraged to contact the Crime Stoppers and tell what they know. Crime Stoppers can be contacted at the website http://www.crimestoppers.ab.ca/edmonton/ or by calling 1-800-222-8477.

downtown shooting, police investigating death

The police are investigating the death of a man after a downtown shooting early Saturday morning. At approximately 3:45 a.m. On Saturday, May 16, 2015 police discovered a male shooting victim downtown after receiving a report about gunshots in the area. The shooting victim was located near the exterior of a downtown apartment building close to the Fort MacMurray Clearwater Crescent area. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and an autopsy is scheduled for this week to determine the exact cause of death. The police have discovered the identity of the victim but this has not been released yet. The investigation into the shooting death is being handled by the RCMP Major Crimes Unit – North, the General Investigation Section, and the Serious Crimes Unit.

According to RCMP Cpl. George Cameron the downtown shooting is not believed to be a random act, although the police investigating the death do have several leads that they are following up on. So far any connection to the recent Morrison Centre shooting has not been uncovered so it is not yet known if the two incidents are related in any way. The body of the victim in the downtown shooting on Saturday has been taken to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Edmonton so that the scheduled autopsy can be performed. Anyone who has any information on the latest shooting, or the incident at the Morrison Centre, are asked to contact the RCMP or Crime Stoppers in order to provide any information that they have.

Downtown Shooting Outside of Wood Buffalo Brewing Company Under Investigation
Wood Buffalo Brewing Company, downtown shooting

The RCMP are investigating a downtown shooting at the Wood Buffalo Brewing Company, and a local Fort MacMurray resident was shot during the incident. At 2 am Saturday morning a 911 call was made to the RCMP, and the complaint involved a shooting which occurred outside of the pub in downtown Fort MacMurray. According to RCMP Cst. Kandice Perry “We received a call of gunshots at the location, so when members arrived at the scene there was a male that sustained gunshot wounds.” The motive for the crime and the identity of the shooter is still unknown and the case is still under investigation. Cst. Perry stated “At this point in the investigation we can’t say for certain” when asked about the who and why of the downtown shooting at the Wood Buffalo Brewing Company.

There was a victim in the Wood Buffalo Brewing Company downtown shooting, a male who is believed to be in his early 30’s. The victim of the shooting was transported from the scene in downtown Fort MacMurray to the local hospital, and was later transported to another hospital in the Edmonton area. Reports place the victim in stable condition but the man has not been identified by the RCMP yet. Cst. Perry stated “The victim is going to be the one that we gain the information from, and… where he’s seeking medical assistance, we just can’t get that information from him at this time. It means that it wasn’t blindly done. The incident was, as far as we can tell, directed at a certain individual.”
